About Natalina:
Natalina wrote her first romance at the age of 13 in collaboration with her best friend. Since then she has ventured into other genres, but romance is first and foremost in almost everything she writes. She’s the author of We Will Always Have the Closet, Desert Jewel, Loved You Always, and Lavender Fields.

After earning a degree in tourism and foreign languages, she worked as a tourist guide in her native Portugal for a short time before moving to the United States. She lived in three continents and a few islands, and her knack for languages and linguistics led her to a master’s degree in education. She lives in Virginia where she’s taught English as a Second Language to elementary school children for more years than she cares to admit.

Natalina doesn’t believe you can have too many books or too much coffee. Art and dance make her happy and she is pretty sure she could survive on lobster and bananas alone. When she is not writing or stressing over lesson plans, she shares her life with her husband and two adult sons.

  1. Can you tell us a little about your books?
Even though I write romance I’m kind of an eclectic writer just as I am  a reader. I write across several sub-genres because I enjoy reading across genres as well. But all my books have common themes or characteristics no matter if it is set in a little town in the US or out in space somewhere (haven’t written this one as yet, lol. But you never know). They all feature some kind of outcast, someone who doesn’t fit in into the “normal” standards, and the unifying theme across colors, nationalities, religions, or disabilities—the need to love and be loved. Oh yeah, and I do have the tendency to inject some kind of mystery/drama into all my books, even the romantic comedies.
  1.  What inspires you to write?
Just about anything really. Could be a song, a movie, an overheard conversation in line at the store, something I witness at the coffeeshop…events from my past. Sometimes a color or a smell trigger an idea for a story.
  1. How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
So far I have five published with another one about to be published in March, but at least three more finished. Asking a writer which one of her “babies” is her favorite is like asking a mom which of her kids she prefers. They all have their flaws and their glows. To me it always seems to be the last one being published, probably because it is the one that better sticks to your brain at the time. So I guess if I had to pick, I’d choose Blind Magic because of the main characters. I struggled with that book. Agonized over many things, deleted and added, and finally decided to challenge myself by adding the male character’s POV (can’t tell you why it was challenging. You’ll have to read the book, lol). But ask me again in a few months and I’ll probably give you a different answer.
  1. For a reader who hasn't read your books yet, which book do you suggest they start with?
Blind Magic or Loved You Always, I think. They are connected by a character but can be read separately and in any order. Loved You Always came first and then Marcy, who was a side character in it, became the star of Blind Magic. You just can’t help loving Marcy.
  1. How do you come up with your characters names?
It depends on the story and the sub-genre. For example, in Desert Jewel which is a romantic fantasy, I was very methodical about choosing names. I wanted names that were culturally relevant to the setting and also I needed some meaning behind those names. The main character, Jaali has a Swahili name even though is from Northern Europe. That was done on purpose because he is part of two very different cultures but doesn’t fit in either. On the other hand, his princess ended up with a name I have no idea where it came from. I wrote it down, liked it, and ran with it.
  1.  What's one random fact about yourself that you can share?
I love Opera. Yes, you heard it. My namesake aunt got me hooked on it when I was little and I just grew to love it. If I could afford it I’d buy tickets to every single opera that came into town. And I do have an impressive collection of sound recordings of a lot of them.
  1. If your fairy godmother waved her wand and whisked you away to the location of your choice, which place would you choose, and why?
Scotland. I lived there for four years a longtime ago and of all the places I’ve lived (which are quite a few), Scotland felt like home. It’s just my kind of place and I don’t even mind the rain. (Washington state comes in a close second)
  1. What are writing projects are you currently working on?                                                                                                  I just finished a M/M shifter romance and I am currently working on another romantic comedy—as yet to be named—and revising a dystopian/sci-fi romance project that doesn’t fit into any “boxes” and which most likely will end up being self-published. I am also rewriting an old romantic suspense novel exclusively for my newsletter subscribers.
