Welcome Today's Featured Author
Patricia Rose!!
Iron Mike: A boy. A dog. The end of the world.
NOTICE: This novel recommended for ages 16+ due to language and some sexual content.
When the black ships drop from the clouds, billions die. The weapons are silent, the effects, lethal. Nations fall. Humanity crumbles. Their mission is simple: seed the earth. Feed their creatures. Harvest the crops.
The war is over before it begins. Or is it?
From the ashes of our memory, heroes are forged. In the shell of a surviving outpost, one boy is asked to do the impossible. Rising to the challenge, Mike Sanderlin becomes a man, then a soldier, and finally, a hero. He’s more than a symbol and less than perfect, but to save his younger sister and fight for Earth, he’ll become Iron Mike.
With an alien ally, Iron Mike will hurl himself into the teeth of a war that can only have one winner.
Built to fight. Born to win.
Iron Mike is ready. Are you?

Interview with Patricia Rose:
- Can you tell us a little about your book?
Iron Mike is
my first published novel. It's a coming-of-age story, more than
anything, but it's posing as a Science Fiction novel. I've hidden
some of the universal themes of manhood, courage, fear, first love,
etc., behind some nasty invaders from other galaxies.
- Using one sentence, can you describe Iron Mike?
Wow. That's hard!
I'd say … "Iron" Mike Sanderlin is your typical teenage
Kentucky boy, until the whole world changes, and he suddenly has to
grow up.
- How did you choose the genre you write in?
I've always loved
Science Fiction and Fantasy. My first preference as a reader is
almost always urban fantasy or paranormal romance. To me, it just
seemed natural to write in that genre; it felt as if the genre chose
ME, not the other way around. I started with the characters I wanted
to build – just Mike and Kari at the beginning – and it grew from
there.
- Do you work with an outline, or just write?
I do both. I
*like* to be all neat and organized and have an idea of the story,
but once I start writing, the people inside my head tend to wander
off in their own directions. They'll do things completely
unexpectedly and forty or fifty pages later, I'll realize, "Oh!
THAT'S why that made so much sense!" I have told friends that I
let my novels "simmer on the back burner" a lot, because
that's what it feels like. While I'm dashing around, fighting fires
and dealing with the meal to be cooked, the novel's just quietly
simmering in the background, patiently writing itself until I have
time to look at it again.
- Do you have a favorite spot to write in?
I have the perfect
set-up. My dining room is ridiculously large for the house, so we
have my desk and my husband's desk side-by-side in front of the
window that looks out into the backyard. We live on the side of a
cliff / hill / mountain (depending on who you talk to) and I have
several bird feeders set out. It's really enjoyable to watch the
birds and squirrels whenever I look up from the keyboard.
- Do you have a favorite food or drink you must have nearby when writing?
Must have a Diet
Dr. Pepper close to hand. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I understand,
on a deep, visceral level, the NEED for caffeine!
- Do you listen to music when you write?
Not often, no. And
when I do listen to music while writing, it's always something New
Age or Reiki, something with a soothing melody but no words. Any
music with lyrics will distract me, and before I know it, I'm tapping
along to the beat and paying more attention to the lyrics than to
what I'm trying to say.
- What is your favorite thing to do when you're not writing?
I don't think I can
narrow it down to one! If I can include all the fur critters, then I
would say I love spending time with my family. I am so very
fortunate to have people (of both the human and non-human variety) in
my life that are gentle, nurturing and loving. Hanging out with them
and talking is my favorite non-writing thing to do. Bonus points if
we're doing some other fun activity at the same time!
- What are you working on next?
I have two works
currently in progress. The first, because so many people have asked
for it, is a continuation of Mike's story in Iron Mike: The
Return. It's a sequel, kind of, in that it continues the story of
the characters we've come to love in Iron Mike. But it also
explores brand new characters set in the same scenario (remember how
the people inside my head tend to wander off in their own
directions?) The other novel I'm involved in, about ¾ finished,
actually, is a completely different track for me. It's a detective
story … a kidnapping mystery with its own twist. I'm hoping to
have Iron Mike: The Return out by then end of September, 2016
and Hopeless out by early 2017.
