Interview With Dana Tanaro Britt :
1.
Can you tell us a little about your book?
Sure!
Shades of Blue is a story of finding joy & love when least
expected. After loss & tragedy in both their lives, neither
Charlie nor Gabe are looking for love when they find each other. The
island is a balm to their battered souls, their relationship a
surprising haven. Gabe & Charlie’s story is one of hope &
survival, of being brave enough to chase a bright future despite the
obstacles life throws in their path.
2.
How was it to hit publish on your first book?
So
incredibly surreal! I’m still a bit dazzled…”I HAVE A BOOK!”
3. Using
one sentence, can you describe Shades of Blue ?
Shades
of Blue is the story of Charlie’s desperate attempt to escape the
world following terrible loss, Gabe’s intense need for peace after
horrifying tragedy and of both finding joy & love when they least
expect it.
4.
Do you have any odd writing habits?
Well,
‘odd’ is relative, isn’t it? *laughs*
I
have the typical writerly habit of talking out loud as I type to hear
how something sounds, making certain expressions or acting out
motions to be sure that’s what I’m trying to say—adding
authenticity to the story, ya know!
5.
Do you have a favorite spot to write?
While
I can write anywhere I choose to, I do enjoy writing from my study at
home where I have big windows and my books & pictures around. I
also like writing from my porch when the weather is nice—I’m a
champion porch sitter!
6. Do
you listen to music while you write?
No,
I don’t. While sometimes a song will inspire or connect to a scene,
I don’t listen to any music whilst I’m writing. The music
distracts me from the story at hand, which is usually playing out in
my head much like a movie. It’s magical.
7.
What's one random fact about yourself that you can share?
I
adore chocolate milk—I have a wee chocolate milk nightcap every
night, I kid you not.
8.
Are you attending any author signing event this year?
I’ll
be doing a book release party in my hometown of Bowling Green,
Kentucky, sometime this summer. I’m very excited about it!
9. What
writing projects are you currently working on?
I’m
not one to talk about works-in-progress--gotta protect the magic--but
I will say I’m working on another book set on the same island as
Shades of Blu. Readers might even see some favorite characters pop up
again! *wink*
