Interview with Diana Nixon:
Can you tell us a
little about your books?
- There are two genres that I work in: contemporary (romance) and paranormal. I write books for young adults and adults, and I have 11 books, including one short story and a book of poems. At the moment, I’m working on a love story, name In Your Eyes, that will be released on December 16th. For those of you who read Love Undone, this story will seem familiar, because it’s written from Emily’s POV, and of course, it tells about her romance with Nic. We didn’t know much about them, their vision of the story and their romance, so I thought I would give Emily a chance to tell what she felt after losing the love of her life and the experiences that she had to go through before she learned how live, breathe and love again. It’s a touching and heartbreaking story that I hope will stay with you for a very long time:)
Do you have any “odd”
writing habits?
- I never make any plans for my new books. It’s not exactly odd, but I know that most authors like writing their ideas down and then thinking a lot about every small detail of a new story, but not me. I know what will be the beginning and the end of a new book, and even for my fantasy stories, I never make any plans. Even though I do love inventive plots, and always make sure that my books are different from those of the same genre.
Do you listen to music
while you write?
- Sometimes. I prefer working in silence, well as much as it is possible with a three-your-old devil running around the house:) But there are moments when I need inspiration for a particular scene, then yes, I listen to music to make the pictures and ideas in my head more vivid.
How did you choose the
genre you write in?
- I always liked fantasy stories, that’s why my debut book was a fantasy novel. But then, my editor said that she liked my ‘love scenes’ and that I should try writing a contemporary romance, and so it starter… First, it was Hate at First Sight, then Love Undone, and then Checkmate Series. I can’t say which genre I like more, I love both of them. While working on a fantasy book, I can let my imagination go totally wild, but in contemporary romances you can always make some everyday scenes look better, funnier or more emotional.
When did you know you
wanted to write a book?
- - I started writing about three years ago. I never thought I would become a writer, and my original profession was far from it. I read a lot, and one day, I realized that I had an idea for my own book. I started working on Live Lines and finish a 100k-words story in 4 weeks, which was my personal record:)
What's one random fact
about yourself that you can share?
- I’m a perfectionist. I like everything about my life, my house and even my book covers to be perfect. I bet my cover designers think that I’m a real pain in the neck, but they still love me:) As well as I love everything they do for my stories:)
What's the last book you
read?
- Fiery Heart by Richelle Mead. I’m hopelessly in love with Adrian, so I couldn’t miss Bloodlines Series:)
What do you do when you
are not writing?
- Does it ever happen? Lol I don’t remember the last time that I was not writing. As a rule, I take a two or three-week break after each new book that I publish, but it’s still not enough to read all the books from my to-read list or watch all the movies that I missed while writing. Of course, I could give myself a break and stop writing that much, BUT… I can’t help myself:)
What book did you enjoy
writing the most and why?
- There are actually two books that I loved working on a lot. The first one is Songs of the Wind (Love Lines, # 2) and the second one is Love Undone. Both are very emotional. That’s why I like them so much. And every time I read a review from a reader who shares my opinion, my heart melts, because it means that the original mission has been accomplished and my book did make someone feel:)
What are writing projects
are you currently working on?
- Well, I have already said a few words about In Your Eyes. And I also have an idea for one more romance, but the only thing that I can tell about it for now, is that it will be totally different from everything that I have ever written :) And of course, I hope you will love it :)
