Interview With Joyita Basak:
1. Can you tell us a little about your
book?
The book ‘I Still Love You’ is a
combination of love, sarcasm and a decent message for the readers. Some people
are very good at making new decisions, Armaan is one of them. Being a son of a
celebrity industrialist, everything was at his doorstep. Still he wants to
pursue his dreams for satisfaction and success. Indu, a common girl from
Charanpur village is struggling to create her own existence as a doctor in
spite of her messed up life. Difficulties have engulfed her situation and being
a girl from an under-privileged family, she herself needs to modify her
decisions to be the one
outstanding. The story starts when they
meet, when their world comes closer. What will happen? That’s what ‘I Still
Love You’ will portray.
2. What inspires you to write?
Being a booklover since childhood, I
have been familiar to the world of literature in very early days. Within course
of time, I have developed interest for detective, thriller genre as well as all
the fictions. While going through the stories, I always take an inspiration to
encourage my thoughts. The portrayal of the plots from my favourite authors
Paulo Coelho, Nicholas Sparks inspired me to write my own novel.
3. Do you have a special time to write
or how is your day structured?
I am a student of final year, so its
not easy for me to write everyday, but I try to maintain a routine at night.
But while having a holiday or so, writing depends on my mood, when I feel like
curating a plot, I try to pen down as soon as possible. I prefer nights much
more as I feel it’s the time I can concentrate during the calmness of the time.
4. If you could be friends with one of
your characters, which one would you choose?
I would love to be friends with Indu
Rai, the female protagonist in my story. I have always been interested to
highlight the lifestyle of under privileged people from our society who are
deprived enough not to be aware of the spotlight. I have never met someone like
Indu in person, so if I get a chance to meet someone or to be friends with
someone, I would love to choose this character.
5. Do you listen to music while you
write?
Though I am a music lover, I don’t listen
to music while I write. This me-time is confined within my thoughts of creating
several plots or sometimes few circumstances. So, I keep my writing process to
be natural. But sometimes, I listen to music before writing down, the therapy
helps me to have a soothing atmosphere.
6. Do you have a favourite spot to
write?
My favourite spot to write is the
cosiest corner in my room beside the window. I have always been in love with
cosy places attached to nature, so I have chosen the calm corner of my place. I
find it confining to pen down at any point of time.
7. If you could spend 24 hours as a
fictional character, who would you chose?
If I could spend 24 hours as a
fictional character, I would definitely choose Hercule Poirot, the world famous
fictional Belgian detective featured on Agatha Christie’s novels. The way he
portrayed a classy investigation throughout the stories, I really admire that.
Since childhood, I have been a true fan of detective thriller stories and when
anyone used to ask me what I wanted to be in future, my one and only answer was
private detective. Till now the answer remains same.
8. What writing projects are you currently
working on?
I am currently working on my new novel based on a
series of short stories regarding Kolkata, I have few more scripts for the web shows.
I have few unfinished stories from school days, so during the quarantine days,
when I am managing enough of time, its been so productive. I have few more articles coming up very soon.
