He wanted to pretend he was a nice guy now? I ran through my first day at Greenwood Senior High. The vivid details craved an excruciatingly clear memory of just the kind of guy he was. Even if he didn’t remember, I certainly did.

If only that had been the end of it. But it wasn’t. He was back that afternoon and mom insisted I take him a glass of lemonade.

I kicked his leg and he slid out with grease marks on his cheeks and hands that only made him hotter.

The universe’s unfairness had never been clearer than Dare looking like a cover model wheeling out from under my mom’s junker of a car. If I’d had a team of stylists and beauty professionals dress me and do my makeup, I’d never be more than catalog cute. He was super-model searing without even trying.

“From my mom.” I shoved the glass toward him.

“It’s not from you? Did you make it yourself?” He set the wrench down on the concrete and drew his knees up, resting his back against the side panel of the car. His gaze locked onto mine, holding it and not letting me look away.

My pulse pounded, and my stomach back flipped into next week. “Just take it.”

“Did you poison it?” He lifted an eyebrow.

“Yes, I dropped in one of my cyanide capsules that I keep on hand for annoying neighbors.”

He didn’t say a word, only let me stand there with my arm extended, not making a move to take the glass.

My hand shook. I jerked it back and took a sip. “See, not poisoned.” I took a step closer and held it out again.

His gray eyes twinkled with amusement. He shot up, so his body brushed against mine on the way up, not trying to make room at all for my personal space. His fingers curled over mine before he pulled the glass from my grasp.

Instead of drinking from the side of glass closest to him, he turned it in his hold and took a sip from my side of the glass. My lip prints melted away by his. He didn’t drop his gaze or look away.

He froze me in my tracks like a deer caught in headlights after a long night in the forest.

“Delicious.”

The Art of Falling For You is a great read. It's a must-read. I think it currently one of my favorites reads this year. The beginning starts with the present then it goes back four years and ends back in the present and has me so wanting the next one. Shortly after starting reading I was waiting for the story to jump back to the present but it stayed in the past and I was so hooked that I forget I wanted the present. Bay is a great down-to-earth girl. She's been known as The New Girl at school. Dare is a football player looking for a good college to go to. Their senior year Dare decides it's time to pursue Bay. He's a little awkward at first and I loved that he wasn't perfect. This one has a lot of angst. When I found out what Dare did to Bay at the end, I was so mad at him and can't wait to see how he makes up for it in the next book.

Maya Hughes, that's me!, can often be found sneaking in another chapter while hiding in the bathroom from her kids! :-) I'm a romance writer who loves taking inspiration from everyday life, namely my husband and biggest fan. Inspiration also strikes when I hear a song, meet someone new or daydream while at soccer practice.

Instinct is a short quick read. I was hooked on it. Everette is a vampire. He is obsessed with Farah.
Everette is definitely weird. He's conflicted on what to do with Farah. Farah didn't believe in vampires until Everette so she learning new things. She takes everything very good and I kind of expected her to freak out a bit more.

Craving is another short quick read. It picks up where Instinct left off. Everette is getting more possessive of Farah. Farah asks a lot of questions but we don't really get many answers. Everette goes back and forth about whether he wants to kill or change Farah. There another storyline going on in this one too and we get to meet the Mother vampire.

Thirst is a good read. It picks up where Craving left off. There's still back and forth with Everette and Farah. He's not sure what to do with Farah and Farah's not sure if she wants to be changed. There's more of a mystery suspense storyline in this one and the ending has a cliffhanger that has me waiting for the next one.

The Ravenhood series started as a duet but then became a trilogy. The books should be read in order.  When I finished Exodus, I was happy with the ending and there was an announcement that there would be a bonus epilogue, I was excited then the bonus epilogue turned into The Finish Line. I kind of went through do I really need to read a whole another book about these characters. My curiosity got me and I decided I had to read it then I got nervous because The Finish Line has a lot of pages, it's a big book.   I jumped in and definitely, couldn't finish this one in one sitting.  The Finish Line turned out to be the story that I didn't know I needed.  It's a great story.  I loved the characters and the journey they went on. This one has emotion, suspense, and romance all wrapped up perfectly.

“I’m Oz. He’s D. And we’ll be back for another rundown of murder and mayhem next week. Stay tuned for Osian and Danny’s London Crime Podcast.” He checked his watch, counting down a few seconds before signalling to Dannel to pause the recording. “Another one bites the dust.”

“Oz and D?”

Osian grinned over the top of his laptop at his boyfriend of fourteen years. They’d been best friends practically from infancy and started dating in their teens. “We’re hip with the kids.”

“I am not hip. I have two.” Dannel swivelled in his chair before pushing himself across their living room floor. “And thirty isn’t old age. Besides, how many teenagers are listening to true crime podcasts?”

“Let me have my dream.” Osian followed him down the hall into their bedroom. He stretched out on the bed to watch Dannel prepare for his shift. “Ready to go for twelve hours?”

Dannel glared over his shoulder; his dark brown eyes always seemed to pierce into Osian. “What do you think?”

Truthfully, Osian didn’t know for sure what Dannel thought about being a firefighter. Dannel had followed in his father’s footstep, yet he didn’t quite fit the mould. Osian worried it might come crashing down eventually.

Am I borrowing trouble from the future? Maybe it’ll all work out on its own. Although, when does it ever?

Watching Dannel comb his short black curls trimmed into a high fade before spritzing his hair with argan oil, Osian couldn’t help dragging his fingers through his own untidy brown mane. Though they had much in common, they were polar opposites in other ways. Their differences made their relationship stronger, in Osian’s opinion.

Dannel always made him think of a buffer version of Richard Ayoade. Osian had a striking resemblance to the actor Matt Ryan. He’d even cosplayed as John Constantine and Edward Kenway because of it.

“Meeting me after shift for an early breakfast?”

“Go on, then.” Osian leaned up on his elbows for a kiss. He smiled when Dannel brushed his lips quickly, then bolted from the room. “Bye.”

Since they’d grown up together, Osian knew the ins and outs of Dannel’s personality probably better than his own family did. They’d been inseparable from the time they could toddle across the hall to each other’s homes. He’d been the first one Dannel told about his autism diagnosis.

With Dannel gone for his shift, Osian faced the silence in their two-bedroom flat with a sense of dread. He hated the quiet. It allowed his thoughts to stray to things better left forgotten.

Rolling off the bed, he headed into the en suite to stare glumly into his own blue eyes in the mirror. He shook his head. I’m not old enough to feel so bloody tired all the time. His thoughts seemed to drain every ounce of energy out of him.

Tired and drained.

Drained and tired.

Guilt weighed him down, as though the entire Tottenham Hotspur team had climbed on his shoulders. Time heals all wounds is such bollocks. A year hadn’t brought him much relief.

Review by Gia:

When I started reading this one, I wasn't completed hooked. It took me a bit to get into it but once I felt I knew a bit about Osian and Dannel the story became one I was hooked to.  Both Osian and Dannel are interesting characters. It took me a little bit to warm up to them but then I loved them. They liked the love, connection, and support they have for each other.  There is a murder mystery they are trying to solve which had some twists.  Overall this one was a good read.
