Flawed Reality: a situation that is imperfect, altering ones perception of what is actually happening
My reality was flawed from the beginning. I saw things one way, the way I wanted to see them, but they were never as I envisioned. I was blinded by so much that fantasy and reality started to blur together.
Sometimes I feel like I've wasted an entire part of my life waiting on Becca. Other times I feel like it was all worth it. That, in the end, the way things worked out was the universe's way of allowing me to find the path which would lead me to where I would end up, to who I would end up with.
Who would have guessed my life would come full circle? I sure as hell wouldn't have. Even when I look back now, I still have no idea how I got so damn lucky. I was such as ass back in the day. I was selfish. I didn't care if I hurt other people as long as I got what I wanted. Then, when I didn't get what I wanted, I got angry. I suppressed my anger, got drunk and liked to fight.
Like I said, I was an ass. A Grade-A jerk. I deserved to be alone. I deserved to be miserable. I caused misery. Not because I wanted others to be miserable like I was but because it was all I knew. I was desperate for what I couldn't have, for who I couldn't be with.

A dangerous game has begun.
Sydney. Her skin felt as soft as it looked. I shouldn’t have touched her, but I couldn’t help myself. I’ve been to New Orleans dozens upon dozens of times. It’s a unique city, filled with tourists and superstition. And until tonight, I’d never been superstitious.
An old fortuneteller freak stopped me on the way to the diner and said I would make a decision that would change my path. She didn’t know that I’d walked the path to this very restaurant before. It had been a few years.
Who knew that the decision to return would be blessed with a beauty—five foot six with curves in all the right mouth-watering places. Clothed in cheap polyester, stained with God only knew what, Sydney was a vision. Blonde hair to her waist. Big brown doe eyes. I could almost taste her.
In his game, everyone’s a pawn…
I didn’t miss the rumble of her stomach when I asked her to dine with us. She was hungry. Something that flashed in those eyes told me it wasn’t because she just skipped lunch today. Maybe I could meet some of her needs. Forget that. I could definitely meet her needs, but it was up to her to let me. So, I left her my business card, my number.
Girls like Sydney, they’re afraid. They never make the first move. Most never even make the second. I doubt she’d call. I’d tipped her well, not because she was the best waitress I’d ever had, not even because she was within my sites. I tipped her so that when I came back to the diner, she would remember me. She would want to serve me.
And, oh, would she ever serve me. I just have to play my cards right.
…and he’s never lost a game.

No one will ever be good enough. No kiss will ever compare to his. Reagan’s standards are high. When someone doesn’t meet them, she moves on.
“Next in line, please.”

Interview with Rachael Brownell:
1. Can
you tell us a little about your books?
I write romance and I'm a sucker
for a HEA, so most of my books have them. Some of my books are young
adult but most are contemporary romance and I even have a duet that's
romantic suspense. My favorite book, I co-wrote with Casey Bond. It's a
romantic thriller.
I've always loved to write but started to take it and myself more seriously when my son started kindergarten and I had the time.
3. How
long on average does it take you to write a book?
This question always
makes me laugh and here's why. I'll be releasing a contemporary romance
called Lucky 13 in a few weeks and I wrote that book in 21 days for
NaNoWriMo last year. On the flip side of that, I have a book that I'm
almost finished with that's taken me close to two years. Normally, when
the words are flowing nicely and I have a decent amount of time each day
to write, I can finish a book in two months, including my self-editing
process which is intense.
4. For
someone who hasn't read any of you books yet, which one would you
suggest they read first?
I always recommend starting with my series,
mainly because book one is free on all platforms. It's the best way to
see if you like my writing style. It's called Holding On.
5. Do you work with an outline, or just write?
I've done both. I find that if I work with an outline I tend to skew off in different directions a lot of the time so when I do work with one, it's pretty vague.
6. Do
you have a favorite food or drink you must have nearby when writing?
Coffee is a must, no matter what time of day it is, and I always have
Red Vines on hand. It's the best licorice - sorry Twizzler fans.
7. Do
you listen to music while you write?
I do and I have a playlist for
each book. I try to find songs that put me in the shoes of my characters
so I can better identify with them and their situations. Of course,
there are my go-to songs that are on every playlist too.
If
you were a super-hero, what powers would you have? Invisibility. I
think it would be fun to be able to disappear into my own world without
being interrupted. Oh, and I'd love to observe people when they didn't
know I was there.
I actually have three more this year, all in a span of about 5 weeks. I've already attended RAI in Roanoke, Virginia and coming up I have Glass City Author Event (Toledo, OH), Carolina Book Fest (Charlotte, NC), and Rebels & Readers (Huntington, WV).
9. What
are writing projects are you currently working on?
I'm attempting to
finish the book that's been a thorn in my side for the last two years
and I just finished outlining a new idea as well. I have five ideas
outlined in some form so I just need to decide what's going to be my
next project.
