What happens to the dead when they die?
It wasn’t a question Olivia Brennan ever thought to ask. After all, once you've been to Hell and back, how much worse can things get? Her harrowing descent has already cost her everything—her home, her career, the man she loves. But when an enemy resurfaces looking to settle a score, she learns there’s more to lose than she ever imagined.
Purgatory harbors many secrets, and Olivia has landed smack dab in the middle of their tangled web. Faced with an impossible choice, she must reach into the darkest parts of her soul for the strength she needs to save everyone she loves. But even if she succeeds, will she ever be the same again?
Maybe some questions are best left unanswered.

A dark paranormal romance
The story about a girl who lived, died, and met a guy…in that order.
Is it possible to find true love while condemned to purgatory until the end of days? Olivia Brennan isn’t looking to find out. Her afterlife is nothing special — her days spent working for a division of Purgatory and Associates, her nights usually occupied with reruns or a good book.
Everything changes when her best friend coaxes her into a girls' night out one fateful evening.
The handsome stranger eyeing her from across the club seems too good to be true.
Drake proves to be witty, charming, and considerate to a fault, despite the all-too-familiar sadness that lurks behind his eyes. It seems Fate has finally brought Olivia a kindred spirit, someone she can truly relate to.
But can she move past her own dark regrets from the life she left behind?
Or will falling for him demand the ultimate sacrifice—her soul?

About Nicki Scalise:
Nicki Scalise lives in the foothills of northern Colorado with her husband, four dogs, and a chinchilla. With so many furry, tail-wagging monsters running wild, the house is generally in varied states of chaos. If ever they give her a break, she spends her free time imagining new worlds, watching Firefly for the millionth time, or counting down the days until the next Comic Con.
Interview With Nicki Scalise:
1. Can you tell us a little about your books?
I’d be happy to. The Revenants in Purgatory series is a paranormal romance/urban fantasy tale about a young woman named Olivia. The central themes of the series revolve around death, the afterlife, and the consequences of the choices we all make during the course of our lifetime.
2. When did you know you wanted to write a book?
I knew I wanted to be a writer when I was in my teens. At the time I wasn’t sure exactly how. I was into writing angst filled poetry, as most melancholy teenagers tend to do, and I thought that I might do something with that. My first attempt at writing a novel was when I was twenty-one. The plot was based on a dream and it was not… hmm, well….I’ll just come out and say it, the book was terrible. It’s tucked away somewhere where it shall remain hidden in the shadows until I die. I didn’t get really serious about writing (and finishing) a novel until 2013 when I penned Prayer for the Dead (RIP #1).
3. Do you work with an outline, or just write?
I’m a pantser. I find outlining to be too restrictive and it tends to cause me to get serious cases of writer’s block. I work best when my imagination can run wild without constraints. That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with outlining. I’ve just found that I tend to get bored writing if I already know what’s coming. It’s just a fun for a writer to be surprised, just as the reader.
4. Do you aim for a set amount of words/pages per day?
I’d like to sound like a disciplined writer and say yes but you’d be smelling smoke because my pants would be on fire. Generally I write until I can fulfil a plot point or the inspiration well runs dry for the day. Sometimes that means I get a few thousand words for the day, other times it means I end up staring at a blank page.
5. Which book has been your favorite to write?
I really enjoyed writing Mourning Inamorata (RIP #3). The story comes from Drake’s point of view and his voice came easily to me. It wasn’t a story I had originally planned to tell but the idea came to me one night while lying in bed and I decided to run with it. It was only meant to be a short story or novella but apparently Drake had a lot to say and it turned into a full length novel. Go figure. Sometimes a writer just can’t predict these things.
6. Do you have a favorite spot to write?
I always hunker down in my office to write. Every once in a while when I’m in ultra-lazy mode I’ll write from bed but it’s too easy to get distracted by my dogs and Netflix that way.
7. Do you have a favorite food or drink you must have nearby when writing?
I’m kind of boring when it comes to my food and drink choices for writing. Mostly you’ll find a large glass of ice water beside me. Every once in a while if I get wild it might be an iced chai tea latte or hot cocoa.
8. If you had to go undercover, who would you want to be?
If we’re taking a fictional world, I’d want to be one of the Avengers. They seem like a cool group to hang with. Not to mention all the shenanigans they get into, life would never be dull.
I have to ask. Am I undercover because I’m working for the enemy? Because I would totally be on board for being Loki’s right hand. As long as he looks like Tom Hiddleston, that is.
9. What are you working on next?
I’m currently working on a new paranormal romance, stand-alone. I can’t disclose titles or release dates yet, simply put because I don’t have any. Hopefully it will be completed and released sometime this year. After that I hope to get to work on RIP #4 or the first book in a new series.
