Interview With Krysten Lindsay Hager:

1. Can you tell us a little about your book?
Dating the It Guy is about a high school sophomore named Emme who ends in up doing a group project with the senator’s son, Brendon Agretti. Brendon is the guy every girl wants to date and every guy wants to be—the it guy. Emme and Brendon start dating and she finds herself feeling overwhelmed in his world. It’s a romance, but we also see Emme’s relationships with her grandparents and how she deals with her insecurities. It’ll make you laugh and cry.

2. How do you come up with your characters names?
I’ve always liked the name Brendon after watching a cartoon years ago called “Home Movies” where the main character was a kid named Brendon. I came up with the name Landry for my Landry’s True Colors Series because my mom suggested it. She had a student named Landry before I was born. And Hadley, from my Star Series, came from a small town in Michigan we used to drive through on our way to the beach.

3. When did you know you wanted to write a book?
I always knew I wanted to be a writer, but I knew I wanted to write Dating the It Guy after watching a biography on TV about JFK Jr. and started wondering what it would have been like to date someone like him back in high school. The story went from there.

4. Do you have a favorite food or drink you must have nearby when writing?
I’m a Pepsi addict—it gets me through long nights of editing. I love frozen chocolate dipped bananas.

5. Do you have a favorite spot to write?
I write in either my office or my living room. I just moved into a new office this summer and I’m still getting used to it. I just got bookcases and decided to decorate them with washi tape.

6. What is a usual writing day like for you? How is it structured?
I don’t write every day, but I work on something writing related every day. I write at night or very early in the morning.

7. For a reader who hasn't read your books yet, which book do you suggest they start with?
If you like romance then Competing with the Star or Dating the It Guy. If you like character driven books then my Landry’s True Colors Series or Next Door to a Star. All the books have humor and my characters all wear their hearts on their sleeves.

8. If you could spend 24 hours as a fictional character, who would you chose?
I’d like to be my 14 yr old character Landry Albright with her sweet and thoughtful basketball player boyfriend and the beginnings of a teen modeling career. I think it’d be fun to go back to that time so I could get more material for my books!

9. What are writing projects are you currently working on?
I’m working on a YA book about a girl who meets her favorite pop star when she’s cast in his video. I am also working on a new adult book.
