Excerpt
he
alarm on Victoria’s cell phone goes off. She’s set it to go off
every night at eleven forty-five so she can get home by midnight.
Tonight when it sounds, she groans and drops her head to my chest in
frustration.
I
lift her head with both hands and bring her gaze to mine. “I know
you have to go, but before you do, one more lesson from the teacher.”
I run a thumb across her soft, full lips and then lower my head to
allow my lips to take its place. The kiss is soft and lingering, and
just as I believe it to be ending, my awkward girl surprises me and
opens her lips ever so slightly to allow me to taste her sweet mouth
and tongue fully. She steps back even as she kisses me more.
“Mmm.”
She breaks our kiss. “I don’t want to go, but I have to.”
“I
understand.” I turn her toward her dance bag and give her a little
nudge. The last thing I want to do is have her mother get upset and
refuse to let her out at night to rehearse, or worse, tell Mariette.
She
slings her bag over her shoulder and blows me a kiss.
I
catch it. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Yes,
tomorrow. No boxing tonight.”
“Don’t
worry, Miss Awkward. I have no desire to box tonight.”

In 2016 my first read of the year was Snack by Emme Burton. I loved Snack and it was a book that stayed with me all year. So when I saw AWKwaRd was coming out the beginning of 2017, I decided I had to start 2017 with another Emme Burton book. I have to say AWKwaRd is a really good read but Snack is still my favorite by Emme.
Max is dancer and choreographer. He's also a big player. He makes a bet with his boss, Mariette. She bets him that he will fall in love in 3 months. Being the big ladies man he is, he doesn't think that is possible so he takes the bet. The prize will be a night Mariette. With a bet like that you know he's going to fall in love and the bet in going to cause problems. But this story isn't just a cookie cutter bet story, there is a twist that kind of separates this one from the rest.
Victoria's last name is Awkward. She is anything but Awkward. She's gorgeous and a dancer. She is the new dancer for Max and Mariette. Mariette declares her off limits. There is a great connection between the two. At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like Max. My first impression of his character was he was little too jerky for my for but Victoria brings out the good side of Max. I loved the interaction between these too.
