This bad boy is about to get played…
After getting her heart broken by a player again, Whitney Porter is done with men. She’s focusing on her future career and her first assignment at the college newspaper: Posing as a sports writer for an exposĂ© on the extra perks jocks receive. But Hudson Decker, the bad boy of the hockey team, is about to test her resolve. To keep herself from breaking her no-sex rule with the temptingly tattooed athlete, she decides to use him for a side project: Anatomy of a Player, to help Whitney—and women everywhere—spot a player, learn what makes him tick, and how to avoid falling for one.

With his life spiraling out of control, Hudson Decker’s looking for a distraction. When his teammates bet him that he can’t land the gorgeous but prickly new reporter, he accepts the challenge, boasting he’ll have her in bed by the end of the semester. But Whitney is so much more than Hudson expected, and soon enough, he’s in too deep. The last thing he needs is another complication, but staying away isn’t an option. One thing’s for certain: this girl totally throws him off his game.

  Review by Gia:
I hadn't realized Anatomy of a Player was book two in the Taking Shots series.   It can be read a s a standalone.  I only realized that it was book 2 after I finished reading it when I went to look for more information on Lyla and Beck.  They appear in this book but you can tell they have a story of there own to tell and it's in book 1, Getting Lucky Number Seven.  Reading Getting Lucky Number Seven is not necessary to enjoy Anatomy of a Player.
Anatomy of a Player is Whitney and Hudson's story.  It's told in their dual POVs.   I loved both Whitney and Hudson.   They are both college students.   Hudson is a super sexy hockey player.  He struggles with school but usually has no problems with the ladies.   This time struggling with his grades is effecting he game with the ladies.   Being the cocky player he is, he takes a bet from his teammates, that he can land Whitney.
Whitney is going to be a tough cookie to crack.   She's sworn off men and especially players.   Whitney is career orientated.  She is hoping by working at the school newspaper she will be able to get a good job.  Her article is to expose the extra perks jocks receive but she is also doing an article an on players.   Hudson is the perfect guy for her to use for her article.
As they spend time together, you get to see the real them.  There is definitely more to their relationship then just winning a bet or writing an article.   They start off as friends and it becomes more.  I really like that they were able to build a funny friendly relationship.   Of course both of their original reason for starting a relationship come to light.  I felt the end was a little rushed and I  could have read more.   I can't wait to read book three, which will be Dane's story but while I wait for that one to come out, I'm going to caught up with Lyla and Beck in the first book.
