He calls me a puppet, but I’m the one pulling the strings.
I am a Hawthorne. He is an Iazetti.
Oil and water, we were never meant to mix.
We did, once upon a time,
When it was forbidden and dangerous.
That time has passed,
And the stakes are even higher,
But anger and rejection still fester deep in my soul.
Xander Iazetti used to be my everything,
And then he yanked it all away like the monster he is.
Thanks to my controlling father, my life is no longer my own.
I’m now a pawn in a very deadly game,
A game everyone except me knows how to play.
I’ve lost so much, shed my last tear.
Now it’s my turn to win.

Puppet is book one in the Ridgeview Prep Series. There's a prequel, Prick, that can be read first but it doesn't have to be read to enjoy this one. Charlotte and Xander have know each other for a while. Charlotte was sent away to school for a year an now she's back. I really didn't understand why Xander and Charlotte went from loving each other to really angry at each other when they were separated by things beyond their control. They may try to be mad at each other but deep down they still like each other. Xander definitely has being a jerk down pat but we do get a glimpse of him being nice every once in a while. Charlotte is a good character too. She tries to be strong but really everyone is making decisions for her and it's hard for her. The ending is a cliffhanger but I was already hooked and can't wait to read more.
4 Stars!
