~About Barb Shuler~

I’m a Carolina Girl by right and a Texan by birth. Best of both worlds. I have the brass sass to keep up with my Texas sized temper. Living and working in both states I’ve learned a lot about hard work, adapting to your surroundings and making the best of the path that you have been led down. My grandma Dollie once told me I would know what I was meant to do when it happened. She was right, as always.
As with most book lovers, I am an avid reader. Reading has always been a hobby - a passion, really and a way to get lost in other people’s lives, their drama and other worlds. It’s a private movie in your imagination that you get to cast and navigate through, at your own pace. Reading helps to expand the perimeters of one's mind. That is what got me into writing. Writing has been something that I have done since I was a kid. If I had paper, I was writing. Nine out of ten times it made no sense but what are words if they are not to be used to your advantage? Words are a part of us all. Why not use them, right?
During the day I work as a ‘desk jockey’ and help the residents of my county navigate themselves around our little, but not too little country town. By night I am either blogging with my best friends, doing PA work for some of my favorite authors or fighting with the voices in my head. They can be stubborn at times. It’s a blessing and I am cherishing every moment. Tomorrow is never guaranteed so I want to make sure I live the day as fully as possible. For what is my creation, can become someone else's treasure.

Interview With Barb Shuler:

1) Can you tell us a little about your books?

My books range from Dark Psychological Thrillers, to Romantic Suspense, to Cowboy Contemporary Romance, to Dark Paranormal Romantic Thrillers to Erotic Fairy Tales. It's a mishmash of craziness that makes my heart happy. Hopefully I have a little something for everyone.

2) How did you choose the genre you write in?

Now, that's a good question. I didn't choose them, they chose me. That totally makes me sound crazy but let me explain. I'm the type of person that can get ideas from just about anything. Not all the time but man when the ideas hit, watch out.

So I always have a notebook or three with me. When I need to write something new, if it just doesn't come to me I pull out my notebooks and flip through notes until one jumps out. Basically, I let the little voice inside my head, lead me to my next adventure.

3) What book is your newest release?

My newest release is Primal Darkness.

It’s a standalone, Dark Paranormal Romantic Thriller. This was one of those old stories of mine that sat and sat in my google docs until just the right time. And now, it's better than I thought it could have been.

4) When did you know you wanted to write a book?

I've always loved to write. As a kid I had notebooks full of nonsense and adventure. But life got really rough for me in November of 2015. My mom was diagnosed with cancer and after months of being an utter basket case, I knew I had to do something to get the emotions and extra frustration I was carrying around. If I didn't I was going to end up in the hospital myself. Or the nuthouse.

So June of 2016 I told my bff Emily that I was going to write a book. A real one this time. I pulled a story from my google docs, went through what I had, made revisions and all that… three weeks later the first draft of My Own Nightmare was finished.

5) Do you have a favorite spot to write?

Yes and No. I love to go sit at the park down from my house and write. Just me, my iTunes, my phone, the park and the church and cemetery. That probably makes me a weirdo but I love cemeteries so sitting out in the gazebo at the park and writing while I stare out across the cemetery is good inspiration.

6) Do you work with an outline, or just write?

I do both. Sometimes a story will come to me and I just have to start typing. It could be a paragraph, a page or a few chapters before the thoughts are down. If that's the case, I just keep going. I did that with my Cowboy Contemporary Romance, Wrangled By Love. It didn't have an outline until I finished it. Round two of edits I had to make it out to fix a few things.

7) For a reader who hasn't read your books yet, which book do you suggest they start with?

I'd say, My Own Nightmare of you can handle a little darkness. This story is one that I poured my heart and soul into. (Which I do with all but, this one is my first book baby.) The series that it kicks off has 3 published works at the moment and book 4 will be out in November. :)

If contemporary is more your thing I'd suggest Wrangled by Love.

8) If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have?

Ooooh, I love this question! But I'm not sure what I'd want more. I’d be happy with being like Wonder Woman!

9) What are writing projects are you currently working on?

I have a few. I suffer from ADHD so I can't just do one thing at a time.
