About Jennifer Locklear:

Jennifer Locklear lives in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. She married her high school sweetheart, Morgan, in 1995. She is the mother of two children, a son and daughter.

Jennifer enjoyed creative writing in adolescence, but set aside her favorite hobby to concentrate on college studies, career and family. In 2010, she rediscovered her passion for writing when her husband recruited her to edit his own stories. They co-authored and published their debut novel, Exposure, in 2014.

Jennifer has been employed in fundraising and development for a non-profit organization since 2000. She has been a contributing reviewer for the Bookish Temptations book blog and is a founding moderator of Argyle Empire, an approved fan site for author Sylvain Reynard. She also enjoys participating in charitable activities, both locally and online.

Interview Jennifer Locklear:

1.     Can you tell us a little about your books?

I write contemporary romance. I co-wrote my first book, Exposure, with my husband, Morgan, in 2014. This story is a romantic comedy about life and love on a Hollywood movie set. It was a story we both had a lot of fun working on and readers really seem to enjoy the humor.

In contrast, my second book, Constellation, is a dramatic, May-to-December romance that is the first novel in a planned trilogy. I always enjoy reading stories with strong character development, so this is what I’m focusing on within the Constellation series. This story features a wide range of characters and I explore how the dynamic relationships between them all converge to ultimately drive the story.

2.     When did you know you wanted to write a book?

I began writing stories when I was around 11 years old. I wrote all through middle school and high school, but set aside the hobby when I started my university studies. About 10 years ago, my husband took up an interest in writing fiction and would ask me for editing feedback and critique.  Soon, he was asking me to help him to work through plot point issues and then eventually I got the bug to start writing again. We’ve been working as a writing team for the past 7 years and it’s been an incredible journey. I had no idea where it would take us.

3.      When you write do you write the first draft on a computer or paper and pen?

I do both, but I prefer to sketch scenes out with a pen and a journal if I have the time. You never know when the inspiration is going to hit so I always like to have the journal near me.  

4.     Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?

Writing is not my primary job. I work full-time and I’m also a wife and a mom, so my actual writing time is limited. Truthfully speaking, I work very hard just to be able to publish one book a year. So, most of my writing time happens in the evenings after work and on the weekends after my other responsibilities for the day are behind me.

5.     Do you have a favorite food or drink you must have nearby when writing?

Not always, but sometimes I find myself contemplating words over a bag of Sour Patch Kids. Not the healthiest snack, but sometimes I need that shock to my system.

6.     Do you have a favorite spot to write?

I like to journal in a bubble bath. It’s a relaxing setting and my imagination really tends to open. If I’m on the computer, I’m either sitting at my writing desk or curled up on the living room sofa while everyone is roaming around the house. My husband is amazed that I can write anything at all in the living room, but once I’m in the zone the words come easy.

7.     If your fairy godmother waved her wand and whisked you away to the location of your choice, which place would you choose, and why?

This year, I went to Europe for the first time and visited Ireland, France, and the United Kingdom. Next, I would like to visit Oslo, Norway and Florence, Italy. I’d also like to visit Tokyo sometime. I’d love to experience the energy of that city, and then visit Japanese gardens and see Mt. Fuji.

8.     What are you working on next?

Right now, I’m finishing my writing on the sequel to Constellation. I want to complete the series by 2018, and then I have two new ideas to work on. I should be able to stay busy for the next few years …
