Interview with Rachael Brownell:

1    Can you tell us a little about your books?
 I write YA and NA Romance, mostly about finding your first love. My series, The Holding On series, follows the lives of a girl caught in a love triangle from high school until after college. The Secrets Duet is more romantic suspense. The MC is part of the Witness Protection Program in A Secret Life and then Secrets & Lies is a companion novella that follows one of the characters from ASL as he runs from the FBI after what happens in ASL. Take A Gamble is a New Adult love story about finding first love and trying to hold onto it amiss troubling times. Today, I just released part 1 in a 5 part serial series that I co-wrote with Casey Bond. It's a dark and twisted romantic suspense. It comes with a content warning. Not my usual type of romance novel but it was probably the most fun I've ever had writing. It's called Dark Bishop.


2    Do you have a favorite character to write about?
 I think my favorite character that I've written so far is Kat from A Secret Life. I described her as the type of person that I wanted to be in high school but I never had the courage to try. Pink hair, bad attitude. I cared way too much what people thought of me. It was fun to l was fun to let her speak her mind without censoring her too much.


3    How is it to co write a book? 
AMAZING! Casey and I have been very close friends for a while now. She's incredibly talented and I was fortunate to work with her. It all just kind of happened, one idea led to another and then 3 or 4 weeks later we had written 5 parts to a dark and twisted tale.

4    Do you have a favorite spot to write? I can write just about anywhere, as long as I have my ear buds in. I tend to stick to my office, though. It's just a habit.

5   Do you have any “odd” writing habits? I'm not sure how odd it is, but I need one of two things while I'm writing. Coffee or candy.

6   Do you listen to music while you write? Always. I can't write without it.

7   What is your favorite activity to do when your not writing?  Golf. We go out as a family. It's a ton of fun even though I'm not very good yet.

8   When did you know you wanted to write a book?
I've always dreamed that I would write a book someday. It was never a priority. I was scared, like every new author is, and kept putting it off. Once my son started school, I figured I would give it a go, even if I didn't do anything with it. I'm happy that I didn't let my fears stop me from putting myself out there this time. Man, that seems like forever ago and it was only a little over 2 years.

9    What are writing projects are you currently working on?
 I just finished the final book in the Holding On series, book 4, Flawed Reality. That will come out June 9th. I've been working on a project called Saving Bliss on and off for a while now. I'm going to dedicate my attention to those characters and try to wrap that up before summer.
