About A.C. Jones:
A. C. Jones discovered her gift for writing in her teenage
years through journaling, and has a great love for the English language. In
university, she began to pursue a degree in English Literature, but changed her
path to studying the development of children and youth.
Since that time, she has worked with children and youth for
many years in both therapeutic and educational settings.
In her career as an educator and therapist, Alana began to
notice how anxious and stressed out kids are, and she saw how much they
responded to Yoga and meditation. So, she became a certified Kids Yoga Teacher
in order to help kids learn how to navigate life’s difficult times, and to
truly love themselves as the exceptional individuals they truly are.
She is passionate about teaching families the practices of
Yoga and mindfulness, and hopes that her book will reach those who are looking
for a way to bring peace and happiness to their homes.
Enjoy the moment. You only get it once.

1. Can you tell us a little about your books?
My
books are all written around the theme of what I call 'Mindful Living'.
To live mindfully means to live on purpose and centered in the present
moment. While it may sound simple, this is a way of life that takes a
daily commitment and practice. But it is so worth it. I believe that
living in the moment could be the meaning of life.
2. What inspires you to write?
There
are a couple of things that inspire me to write. The main reason from
my writing has been found in reflecting on my own personal journey from
an anxiety-ridden and depressed young person to a peaceful and happy
individual. Without going into all the gory details, my twenties were
spent seeking out sources of instant gratification that only led to self
destruction and dissatisfaction. I am passionate about joining people
in finding their own sources of happiness that will lead to life
satisfaction and long term growth.
My
other source of inspiration comes from the children and young people
that I have worked with in my career as an Autism Therapist and Special
Needs Educator. I have also become a Certified Kids Yoga Teacher, and am
loving it! The social-emotional development of children and adolescents
has always been fascinating to me, and I am constantly learning from my
little teachers.
3. Do you have a favorite spot to write?
I
am a person who doesn't work well at home. So, I like to bring my 1
year-old Boston Terrier Wizard with me to a local coffee shop down the
street. We sit on the patio together, and we're both happy and content.
4. What book did you enjoy writing the most and why?
I
don't think I have a favourite, actually. One of my favourite parts
about writing is the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience.
But even more so, I love the chance that I get to research and learn new
ways to create a happy life for me and those around me.
5. Is it ever too late to make changes and be a mindful parent?
Absolutely
not. I am a living example of the power of our personal choices. Making
seemingly tiny changes can lead to lifestyle overhaul. It is never too
late to start living the life you want. It is all about motivation,
belief, and commitment to change.
If
you are a parent who is struggling with parenting your children and you
read 'The Mindful Parenting Handbook', implementing just one or two of
the strategies outlined in the book, you will truly be shocked at how
differently your children will begin to respond to you. This is not a
magic formula. It is a shift in energy that children are astute in
perceiving from the people around them.
6.
What advice do you have for the parent who after reading 'The Mindful
Parenting Handbook' has doubt that it will work for the family?
As
with any change that we as people wish to make in our lives, becoming a
mindful parent starts with the parent's own belief about change. Think
of a behaviour change that you have made in your life. How did you do
it? Chances are, you just replaced one behaviour with another, and then
kept doing it every day, turning it into a habit.
I
suggest starting with a daily practice of 5-minute morning meditation
(You can simply search meditation on YouTube, find one that you connect
with, and go from there). But you must commit to daily practice. 5
minutes is all you need. Your entire approach to children will change,
as will your energy, and that is what your kids will pick up on. You
will be peacefully contagious.
7. When did you know you wanted to write a book?
I
have wanted to write a book ever since I was very young, probably 12 or
13 years old. We all have something special to share with the world,
and I felt this from pretty early on.
8. What are you working on next?
I've
just finished writing a book called, 'End Negativity' about changing
one's negative thinking patterns, and the personal success that it will
lead to. You will be able to find it on Amazon in the next couple of
weeks.
