About Ester Lopez

Ester is a writer and publisher who began her writing career studying “Writing for Children and Teenagers,” but soon discovered it was much easier to write romance. It wasn’t until after she joined RWA and a local chapter, Smoky Mountain Romance Writers, where she got a real education on writing. She lives in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee with her husband, Jerry, two dogs, Charlie and Ellie, and three miniature horses, Pepper, Bucky, and Fury.

Ester got her inspiration for her first book, “The Abduction,” from her own ‘close encounter’ with a spaceship. As a Campfire leader, she was returning from an outing with seven children and another adult, driving on a deserted road in the Gulf Islands National Seashore, when she witnessed a spaceship fly over her van. It kept up with her vehicle for almost 10 miles before disappearing.

From start to finish, her first book took 25 years to write and publish, with a lot of life happening in between. She’s gotten much faster since then. Ester has been writing sci-fi and paranormal/inspirational adventure romances now for almost 30 years.

She finally got inspiration for writing her first children’s book from her Boston Terrier, Charlie and his best friend, Ellie, who is an Australian Shepherd. The two have gotten into a lot of trouble with their antics over the years. Her book, “The Adventures of Charlie and Ellie” was released in 2020.

Ester is currently working on book four in her sci-fi series, “The Vaedra Chronicles.” “Aftermath” should be out sometime in 2020. Book three in her paranormal series, “The Angel Chronicles,” should be out this fall. The title will be “Search for the Golden Idol.”

Ester earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Leisure and Sports from the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida. With no teaching jobs available at the time of graduation, she worked for the National Park Service as a seasonal at Gulf Islands National Seashore. There she met her husband, learned how to can vegetables, sold Tupperware, raised three children, sold AVON, ran a family day care in her home, then did some substitute teaching before moving to the Smoky Mountains.

In the Smokies, Ester re-entertained the idea of becoming a writer when she couldn’t find a teaching job or day care for her children. Continuing to raise her three children, she began her long journey as a writer while working part-time in retail shops, owning and operating a photography studio, a stint as a bartender in a hotel, then later front desk work in a Hilton property and a hostess in a restaurant/brewery, and again, substitute teaching. All of Ester’s experiences have given her many characters to use in her stories.

When Ester isn’t writing, she enjoys gardening, photography, sewing, arts and crafts, hiking and biking, and stained glass. You can find her on her website at www.esterlopez.com,

Interview With Ester Lopez:

1.   Can you tell us a little about your books?
I write sci-fi and paranormal adventure romances plus children’s books.
My first series is The Vaedra Chronicles because it takes place in the
Vaedra system mostly. My first book, The Abduction, would have been a
stand-alone book but the secondary characters started telling me their
stories. So, that’s how the series was born. The second series, The Angel
Chronicles, is about angels. The second book, “Between Heaven and Earth,”
was about an angel who was once human and didn’t know it. After I finished
it, I thought I would give an introductory story about angels taken from
the bible. I came up with The Quest, which I modernized and call it a
re-telling of the story of Tobit. That became my first book and the second
one came out a month later. As far as my children’s book goes, I have one
out now and another one planned for late this year. “The Adventures of
Charlie and Ellie” is about my two dogs and how they get into trouble.
It’s a second grade reader.

2.    What inspires you to write?
Everything inspires me: music, a song, news, sometimes researching one
thing leads to a story idea for a different book, people, comments, books,
pretty much everything.

3.  How do you come up with your characters' names?
Sometimes the character’s name just comes to me and sometimes I really
think hard about it. In Aftermath, my fourth book in the Vaedra Chronicles
Series (which isn’t out yet), my main character was from Vestra Major, a
planet in the Vaedra system. I wanted an exotic name for her. I picture
her as Gal Gadot (the woman who played Wonder Woman) and I wanted a name
that would suit her. I came up with Gadara ni Hovsep. I did more thinking
about her name and the male lead who is Torrin Conolly (who I picture as
Henry Cavill who played Superman)

4.    Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?
As far as a time to write, I write when I can. I work from home for my
son who is a contractor. Sometimes I need to run errands for him,
otherwise, I can do some writing in between tasks for him, or watching my
grandchildren. So, for now, it’s hit and miss, but when I’m on a roll,
I’ll keep writing until the words get blurry and it’s time for bed.

5.  Do you have a favorite spot to write?
I write from my desk in my office, but when I’m at the hand-writing
stage (which I like to do first), I’ll sit on the sofa and write what
comes to me. When I go back to type it up, I’m editing at the same time.

6.  If someone who hasn't read any of your books yet, which one would you suggest they read first?
As far as reading my Angel Chronicles, they are stand-alones, but my
third book will have an angel come back and speak to a character from book
2. He is already in book 2, but that character will be in book 3. In my
Vaedra Chronicles Series, it’s better to start with The Abduction (book 1)
and then Revenge, and then Betrayed. Book 4 which I hope will be out in
October, is Aftermath.

7.   If you could spend 24 hours as a fictional character, who would you choose?
If I could spend 24 hours as a fictional character, I would choose
Keely McGuire, my Secret Service Agent from Betrayed. She ends up in space
with a mate who is with the Interplanetary Space Patrol. I think it’s
because she’s familiar with Earth and the law and takes a mate who is also
with the law enforcement of another system but in space. I would like to
experience what she sees on her first trip through space and onto another
planet.

8.  What writing projects are you currently working on?
My current writing projects are Aftermath, which is at the editor’s
right now while I’m working on book 3 in my Angel Chronicles, tentatively
called The Search for the Golden Idol. I hope to get to my second
children’s book before the end of the year but my procrastination may keep
me from that goal. Once those are done, I had hoped to work on screenplays
for my stories. I have The Abduction finished and I want to get Revenge
and Betrayed done next.
