Release Date: August 1, 2018
Cover Design: Alora Kate
Synopsis
Have you ever sat and thought about how boring your life was? That was me, Chad Walker. I was sick and tired of coasting through my senior year so I decided to shake things up a bit. I invited a set of demons into my life, and without knowing it I was in buried up and to my eyeballs. I was unable to fight the temptation or the addiction and frankly, didn't want to. My body needed more and I wasn’t strong enough to fight it. I preferred feeling strung out over living day to day. I had lost all control.
Until I met Alexa. Her smile almost pulled at my heart just enough to help me through the battle of my life. Almost…
Except, she doesn’t buy the story I am selling. She had been through it all before with her father. Alexa knew my actions before I did, pushing me away just as I was reaching for her, just barely hanging on with my fingertips. She swore she would never get involved with a person addicted to the one thing she would spend her life loathing.
Can an addict like me stop for the possibility of love?
Can I stop because I am better than that? Can I stop because my life depends on it?
Better yet, do I want to?

Excerpt
“Chad?” Melissa waited for his response.
“Everything is fine Mel. I am just wishing I could turn back time.”
“Not me… Tonight was perfect!” Melissa was giddy.
We pull up in the jeep to my apartment complex and Chad offers to take
me up to my place. I hesitated but then saw the look on Melissa’s face
demanding that I allow it.
“It’s a safety issue Alexa.” Melissa said.
Chad got out and walked around to let me out but I had already jumped
out of the jeep. Melissa stepped out as well and hugged me whispering
in my ear she would fill me in later before getting the passenger
front seat.
I began to walk and felt Chad on my heels following me.
“This really isn't necessary Chad. I can handle walking to my door.”
“I want to make sure you are safe.”
“Ok, thanks.” I relented.
Once we got around the corner and Melissa couldn't see us any longer,
Chad caught up with me.
He put his hand on my face like he was going to say something,
anything, but instead just starred into my eyes.
He was sober, I could see the clarity in his eyes.
“I wish things were different.” He said.
“I do too.”
He ran his thumb along my cheek softly.“I had a good time tonight.”
“Me too.”
Chad kissed me on the nose and then pulled away.
I walk up the stairs and then turn the corner to see the last person
on earth that I expected.
My father.
“You know I could never be like that?” Chad says. “I could never be an
addict like him.” He swallowed hard as he said the words intending to
say them but not come out the way they were. They were supposed to be
convincing but they were anything but.
I put my key in the door and turn as I slowly start to open the door.
“You are already are.” I say quietly but loud enough for Chad to hear.
I look back at Chad and then back at my father and then Chad shakes
his head confirming my thoughts before more are spoken.
