Excerpt:
“Is the spirit talking to you, Aleida?”
Aleida Fuller wandered the smoldering crash site, stepping over a curved hubcap and a pool of gasoline leaking into the asphalt. The red hatchback was completely smashed into a crushed shell, shards of metal scattered over the road. A hint of burning rubber lingered in the air. She followed the ribboned grooves in the cement toward the figure covered by a white sheet. She crouched next to the body and lowered her hand on the sheer fabric, pulling her gaze from the victim’s weeping family on the curb.
Nosy bystanders, including half the sheriff’s department and EMTs had stopped to watch her. Aleida hated having an audience, the attention interfering with her readings. The heat of their gaze prickled the back of her neck, spreading goosebumps across her skin. Normally, she relied on her body’s natural responses to connect to the spirit world, but today, she felt nothing out of the ordinary. She turned to Deputy Sheriff Ted Walker, who stood nearby, his expression passive yet optimistic.
“I can’t hear anything,” she said. “The deceased’s moved into the light already or it’s energy’s too faint.”
Ted’s face flickered annoyance underneath his Stetson hat. “Dammit,” he hissed. “I was hoping to give Don’s wife some answers on what happened.”
“She won’t be getting them right away,” Aleida replied. “Her husband’s recently passed so his energy is weak. It takes a lot of effort for a spirit to form an apparition or make contact. Think of them like newborn babies. Babies don’t walk right out of the womb, do they?”
“I guess not.

Interview With Kellie Wallace:

1. Can you tell us a little about your books?
I write a little bit of everything. I can't pick a genre so I write dystopian, WW2 fiction, romantic suspense and I'm starting to get into contemporary. They all have aspects of romance because I'm a big sucker for a good love story. I love having the variety and its a good skill to write different genres to keep up in the market.

2. When did you know you wanted to write a book?
I've always wanted to be a writer since I was a kid. My parents were big readers and I loved reading myself. I started to take it seriously in high school when we did creative writing in class. It was my favourite time of the week! I wrote a bit in high school and compiled little "novels". I used to save them on floppy disks. Thats showing my age! I wrote my first serious novel in 2005 and self published it. From there, my love for writing began.

3. What is a usual writing day like for you, how is it structured? I work full time so I dont get a lot of time to write during the day. However I try to spend 10-15mins jotting down ideas in an app on my phone. Its become very handy to write little blurbs and email it to myself for later. When I get home from work, I try and unwind first before opening up my current WIP. It's hard with so many distractions but I get there!

4.  If you ever experience a case of writer’s block, how do you cure it?
I get writers block all the time. I try not to force myself to write because the work isn't the best. I take a break. I step back from the work and watch a movie or TV show. Go for a walk. Sometimes I can go for weeks without writing a word. If I take a break and go back to my work, the writing is generally better.

5. Do you work with an outline, or just write?
Generally, I start with an outline and flesh the story out from there. Sometimes, I make things up as I go along or I incorporate text from older WIPS into the current one. I try not to worry about not having enough "ammo" when I start creating the world because things always come to me when I begin. It does take time and I take each day as it comes.

6.  What’s the best thing about being a writer?
The best thing is creating worlds and characters from scratch that no one can else can ever replicate. Its one of a kind. I have a special place for all my characters. They are a part of me.

7.  How do you come up with your characters names?
Generally I google them. I had once dreamt the names of my two leads in Edge of Tomorrow, Alex and Kate. I knew it was for a reason so I came up with the general book plot line and named my characters. Alex and Kate fit perfectly with their personalties and relationships. Depending on the era or genre, I would google names popular in that time, or I would use names I've always liked.

8. If your fairy godmother waved her wand and whisked you away to the location of your choice, which place would you choose, and why?
I have so many locations I would DIE to visit. Santorini, Savannah, Tuscany, Switzerland. There are many more locations but these are my top dream destinations. I visit them in my work. I've written Switzerland into Her sweetest Downfall and Savannah into an unpublished WIP. I have wanderlust and the only way I can travel is through my novels.

9. What are writing projects are you currently working on?
I'm working on two projects at the moment. I've started writing book two of my Earthbound series and a new project I've been putting on hold for years. It's a slow process and I hope I can finish it by the end of the year. I am excited for this one!
