About Aylssa Drake:
Award winning author Alyssa Drake has been creating stories since she could hold a pen, preferring to construct her own bedtime tales instead of reading the titles in her bookshelves. Enraptured with many different types of genres, Alyssa currently writes Historical Romantic Suspense and Paranormal/Urban Fantasy Romance stories. She thoroughly enjoys strong heroines and often laughs aloud when imagining conversations between her characters.
Alyssa graduated from the University of the Pacific, with a B.S. in business and a concentration in French literature. Currently she resides in Northern California with her blended family, where she works full-time at a chocolate factory.
She believes everyone is motivated by love of someone or something. One of her favorite diversions is fabricating stories about strangers surrounding her on public transportation. Alyssa can often be found madly scribbling notes on a train or daydreaming out the window as the scenery whips past.

Interview With Alyssa Drake:

1. Can you tell us a little about your books?
I write historical romantic suspense and paranormal/urban fantasy romances (but not mashed together, at least not yet). Recently, because of the sets I am working in, some of my stories have taken a darker turn.

2. What is your newest release?
I have two releases scheduled for September. Releasing on September 2nd is Fractured Fairytales, an anthology of classic fairytales, retold with a new twist. The Frog’s Prince, my version of The Frog Prince, is a modern day take on an old story, which draws directly from the original roots of the fairytale. Releasing on September 12th is Cimmerian Shade, a spicy anthology of paranormal and urban fantasy tales. My novella, Hexing Hearts, focuses on witchcraft, but touches on the larger subject of discrimination.

3. For a reader who hasn't read your books yet, which book do you suggest they start with?
The first book I wrote, A Perfect Plan, is the one I would recommend to a new reader. A full-length novel, A Perfect Plan begins the Wiltshire Chronicles series. It is historical romantic suspense (i.e. love and murder in 1850’s England). Both books in the Wiltshire Chronicles series will be re-released under a new publishing label with new covers. A third book is planned and in progress to be released next year (hopefully, as I have a lot of irons in the fire right now).

4. If you ever experienced a case of writer’s block, how do you cure it?
Yes, I have. To cure it, I typically end up working on a different project or starting a different scene in the story I am writing. If neither of those work, I usually walk away and take a break–nothing like a distraction to trick your brain.

5. Do you work with an outline, or just write?
I am a hybrid between both. I usually have a “general idea” of where I want the story to go, but I do not outline by chapter. I’ll make notes on post-its and move them around like puzzle pieces until the scenes flow.

6. Do you have a favorite spot to write?
Actually, I write on a train. I commute to work and the train provides a distraction-free area for me to write. I get most of my creativity in the morning, so I write then and then edit in the afternoon.

7. What book did you enjoy writing the most and why?
An Imperfect Engagement is my favorite book so far. It is the second story in the Wiltshire Chronicles series. I enjoyed writing this one more because the background was already set up in A Perfect Plan. I had a little more freedom to explore some of the secondary characters more and fell in love with my hero’s brother (who will get his own story in the third book of series).

8. If you could spend 24 hours as a fictional character, who would you chose?
Elizabeth Bennett, no question. I’d even put up with the horrible Mr. Collins in order to end up with Mr. Darcy.

9. Are you attending any Author Signing Event this year?
No, unfortunately, I am not. This is an experience I am looking forward to trying, but have not had the opportunity to pursue. Hopefully in 2018 you’ll see me out and about.

10. What are you working on next?
I just completed a Halloween tale for an anthology releasing in October. The anthology is entitled Tales After Midnight and features some of my favorite authors. My story is a dark paranormal romance and first mentions Dr. Jack, my current anti-hero. My next project is the background development of one of the locations mentioned in the Halloween story, Briar Glen Mental Hospital. This sinister location will be featured in two upcoming tales for anthologies releasing next year, with the final story focusing on Dr. Jack.
