 Giovanni Joins The Werewolves

Poor Giovanni! Just as he enters his 2nd year of med school, a voodoo curse catches up with him. He’s determined to get through medical school, even if he now howls under the full moon and has to take himself for walkies! But just as he’s getting used to fur and fangs, Giovanni’s zombie returns, leading him to wonder – exactly how many other monsters are out there?

Excerpt –

“You do realize,” Giovanni addressed the room in general, “that this was my last summer off before clinical rotations. That next summer I will be working shifts in the hospital and won’t get a vacation at all. Unless of course, I lose control, bite someone, and get hauled off to be euthanized.”
The rest of the table looked at him blankly.
“I had a good thing going before I turned into a Labradoodle!” Giovanni clarified.
“No really, being a Labradoodle’s good for you.” Matias smiled sympathetically, then the comer of his eyes crinkled again. “You needed some color. Pasty white guy, hanging out in the morgue? People were going to talk.”
“Hell,” Jeremy smirked into his coffee. “People were going to grab torches and pitchforks.”
“You know I love having the support and affection of my friends,” Giovanni rose with exaggerated dignity, “though sometimes I really wonder why.”
“Well, it could be worse.” Jeremy had an unholy gleam in his dark eyes and the corners of his mouth twitched though he kept a mostly straight face.” You could lose control, start humping someone’s leg, and get hauled off to be neutered.”

Interview with  Kathy Bryson:

1. Can you tell us a little about your books?

I’ve always enjoyed fantasy, so it’s not too surprising that my stories have a fantastic twist from leprechaun love stories to young adult college experience with zombies! I love the unexpected twist that fantasy can give to a modern day tale, usually with some hysterical laughs along the way!

2. When did you know you wanted to write a book?

When I was 12 and finished reading through my school and local children’s libraries, I knew that’s what I wanted to do when I grew up. After that, I always had something on the back burner and eventually ended up in print!

3. Do you have a favorite food or drink you must have nearby when writing?

Oh, I try to stay away from the food and drink when I write. If I ever retire, I’m going to have to have my refrigerator surgically removed from the house to stay away from the cookies, coffee, candy, etc.!

4. Do you have a favorite spot to write?

I just moved to a new place, so I’m still discovering my new favorite spot. I tend to move around, but I like spaces without distraction and lots of light.

5. What is a usual writing day like for you? How is it structured?

My usual day is filled by my regular teaching job, but I squeeze in social media and promotion around early morning coffee and on my lunch hour. My weekends are sacrosanct. Unless I have to be somewhere, I sit down and write for 4-5 hours straight, getting all the ideas down on paper for editing later.

6. For a reader who hasn't read your books yet, which book do you suggest they start with?

“It’s always best to begin at the beginning,” which means Giovanni Goes To Med School for the Med School Series. Just nominated for an EPIC 2017 eBook Awards Finalist – Fiction Short Works, Giovanni finds med school more challenging than he expected when his 1st patient dies, then wakes up again!

The latest installment, Giovanni Joins The Werewolves, was just released and tells the further adventures of Giovanni over 8 semesters where the hidden worlds of the supernatural and medical science collide!

7. If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have?

I’d like mind-reading – maybe. It would be nice to know what my students are really thinking, but since I don’t, I assume whatever they say is true and so far, that’s worked out well enough.

8. What are writing projects are you currently working on?

In the Fayetteville Fairies, the Jötnar want their piece of the fairy coup, in the Med School series, vampires have taken over the campus coffee shops, and I’m thinking of a cozy mystery about moving to a small town. It’s going to be a busy summer, but it will get my mind off my reduced shopping opportunities.
