ABOUT MIND WAVES

If he can control her mind…
Government operative David Jenkins is skilled at controlling his emotions. Feelings are lethal when your job is to infiltrate minds, erase and implant thoughts, and guard the nation’s intellectual capital. But even he can’t fight his strange attraction to Grace Woznisky. He’ll do whatever it takes to protect her from a madman intent on possessing both their minds. Neither suspect their dangerous enemy has a larger motive, and David may be Grace’s only chance for survival.

Can he control her heart?
All freelance artist Grace wants is steady-paying work and to see her flighty sister to the altar. But after David offers her a job, she finds herself in the middle of a mental tug of war—one that has her reeling from nightmares and fighting for her life. She must decide: Are her growing feelings for her new boss authentic, or is she a victim of his mind-altering abilities?

Mind Waves Excerpt

EXCERPT
“Stay calm and let me do the talking.” Her savior mumbled, stepping in front of her to face her tormentor. “Let the girl go.” He called across the chasm.
“No need to shout,” the deadly voice said. “I can hear you clearly.”
“It’s me you want, not her. Let her go and you can have me.”
“Really? You would give in that easily? She means that much to you?”
Grace’s tormentor was clearly enjoying himself. “You’ve got it all wrong, you know. It’s not you I want. Grace is mine. I discovered her long before you, which gives me prior claim.”
Once again, something about the way the madman spoke sounded familiar to Grace. He must have been familiar to her helper, too, because he stared at the lunatic for a moment as if putting the pieces of an intricate puzzle together.
“You were after Grace all along. Why? She’s innocent. What can she possibly offer you? Unless…”
“You don’t even understand her true value, do you?” He let out a sinister laugh, pacing on the other side of the pit. “I’ve had the chance to poke around in her mind a bit. She’s strong like your Meg. I’m not letting her go. Which means you must.”
His arm flew out from his side, stretching like a giant rope across the gap in the earth and pulling her to his side.

Interview With Amanda Uhl:

1. Can you tell us a little about your book?
Mind Waves is part romance, part mystery, part fantasy or as one reviewer noted, it’s “a mixture of genres...woven together in such a way that you do not see the distinction between genres. It just works!” Mind Waves tells the story of David Jenkins who navigates deadly brain waves to hack into minds and protect the nation’s secrets. While he’s recuperating from a nasty attack by a rogue hacker, he taps into the mind of a woman he spies on the beach and finds himself inexplicably drawn to her. The woman, Grace Wozinisky, believes herself to be ordinary, until a madman haunts her dreams, threatening her sanity. Only David has the ability to protect her. But if he can control her mind, can he control her heart?

2. Using one sentence can you describe Mind Waves?
It’s like Twilight but without the vampires.

3. If Mind Waves was made into a movie who would you want to play Grace and David?
I’d choose Scarlett Johansson for Grace and Sam Claflin for David.

4. When did you know you wanted to write a book?
I thought about writing a book since I was a child, but it took many years and lots of false starts before it came to be. Writing is work, and I found many excuses to avoid it. What finally made the difference was a change in mindset. I learned to treat writing like exercise: You must do a little bit every day to see results. Just like exercise, the rewards are significant, and I’m always glad I made the effort.

5. Do you work with an outline or just write?
I wrote Mind Waves without an outline. However, going through that process taught me a lot, and I now think about my characters in advance and make sure I have a strong goal, motivation and conflict for each. This does not come easy, however. More often than not, I still find myself plotting the story while I’m writing it. Just like my reader, I want to know what happens next. And I’m always surprised how each scene ends up – it’s never usually what I intend.

6. What’s one random fact about yourself that you can share?
I am the second to the youngest in a family of fifteen. My younger sister and I like to tell my parents they saved the best for last.

7. Do you have a favorite food or drink you must have nearby when writing?
I always have a hot cup of cinnamon tea nearby. And if I’m at a coffee shop, then I must have a large chai tea latte. Yum.

8 What writing projects are you currently working on?
Two items: The first is Cross Waves, book two in the Mind Hackers series. Cross Waves tells the story of Geneva Erickson, who appears in the first book and is cursed with the ability to kill with a thought. When she joins forces with her former flame, Rolf Jorgensen, to find his missing sister, she worries she’ll kill him in the process. But Rolf, she learns, is fighting demons of his own. As sparks fly between these two, they discover all is not as it seems in the U.S. government’s Cognitive Mind Unit. And if they cannot harness their unique abilities, they’ll risk destroying one another and all they hold dear.

To lighten the tension a bit, I’ve also completed a humorous contemporary office romance called Charmed By Charlie, which will release in 2017 from Boroughs Publishing. When dashing charmer and creative genius Charlie Solanger shows up as the new guy in the office, he has all the woman vying for his attention, but the one he wants proves maddeningly elusive. Math whiz and star product manager Valerie Wilson has sworn off charmers after catching her fiancĂ© and the owner's son sleeping with her best friend. There's no way she'll let a flirt like Charlie steal her away from her safe and placid boyfriend, George. But when Charlie discovers a mysterious sales trend is draining the company funds, Val must join forces with him to solve the mystery. But can she be around Charlie for any length of time without falling victim to his charm?
