Interview With Penny Harmon

Interview With Penny Harmon!!!

1) Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I grew up in Maine and could never imagine living anywhere else.  While the cold weather gets to me at times, it's better than dealing with poisonous snakes or spiders, tornadoes, and tsunamis.    I'll keep the cold.  I live with my partner, Dan, and two grandchildren that we are raising, as well as one dog and two cats.  I think I'm more of a cat person...just because they are so independent.

2) Can you tell us a little about your books?

I am currently working on the third book of the Rocky Isle Romance series.  The series is based on five friends who live on an island off the coast of Maine.  The men on the island are either ones that they grew up with or ones they're related to, so when a new one comes to town, it becomes a game of sorts.  The first book is titled "I Saw Him First", which explains the whole texting thing between the five women. This book is Mallory's story and how she wins the love of Michael.  The second book, "Fallen for the King" is Jessica's story.  Jessica has a past and it catches up to her when King O'Malley comes to the island.  The third book, "Love with Your Everything" is due be released at the beginning of June.  It is Emily's story and one that you won't want to miss.

3) What inspires you to write?

I have always written and over the last ten years, I have been a business content writer.  However, after ten years, I finally decided that enough was enough and I needed to write what I loved...which is romance.  My family is what inspires me.  I want my family, especially my grandchildren, to be proud of me.

5) When did you know you wanted to write a book?

I started writing a novella, "Complicated Inheritance" back in 2012.  Due to life's interruptions, I had to put it on the back burner for awhile.  I took it out again in December of 2015 and decided I needed to finish it or I would regret it.  Once I finished, I was hooked and I wrote "I Saw Him First".

6) Do you have a favorite spot to write?

With a six year old and a four year old in the house, there is no perfect spot to write.   I usually just sit at my kitchen table where I can monitor what is going on elsewhere.  The downside is that if I am really into what I am writing, I hear nothing else going on.  Suddenly, I'll look up and the living room is filled with every toy they own and I never heard a thing.

My dream is to have my own office and be able to lock the door when I'm writing.

7) Do you work with an outline, or just write?

I usually start out by writing a two or three page synopsis of what the book will be about and then I will do a quick outline.  Once I have these two things in place, I will start working on the story.  However, my characters are well-known for leading me astray.

8) Do you listen to music while you write?

When my partner is home, I throw on the headphones and crank up the music to whatever I'm in the mood for.  I was writing one story that was titled "It All Started with a Fib" when the lyrics of Aerosmith's Crazy hit me and I changed it to "Trying to Forget You".

9) What is your favorite thing to do when you're not writing?

I should say that my favorite thing to do when I'm not writing is playing with my grandchildren, but really, it's reading.  I have to read and usually have two or three books going at a time.

10) What are writing projects are you currently working on?

For the next two weeks, I'm finishing up/editing the third book of the Rocky Isle Romance series "Love with Your Everything".  I also have a Christmas book "No title yet" coming out in November and I'm working on the outline for the next series I will be writing when the Rocky Isle Romance series is complete.  Last, I have a picture book that I've written and just waiting for the illustrations to be done.  Life is great!!!
