And then there’s JESSICA AMES, a canned soup kind of girl in a land of haute cuisine whose aversion to culinary adventure once seemed all but incurable. But when she catches the eye of celebrity chef MARCO ADRIANO at a pretentious rooftop soiree, his uniquely sensual take on food whets an appetite that may just prove insatiable. If only they’d had more time…

About J.D. Lexx:

International attorney, award-winning journalist and last of a modest raconteur bloodline, J.D. Lexx has been a storyteller for most of his life and a student of humanity for even longer. Perhaps it’s no wonder that he takes such pleasure in the subtle tease of the written word, in kindling curiosity with every shared tale, then daring the imagination to continue on beyond The End.

A traveler by nature, Lexx spends most of his time between the frenzied streets of New York and the slower pace of New Orleans’ Vieux Carré. When not exploring the sensual psyche through his writing, he can usually be found honing his skills in the kitchen or working alongside charitable organizations to promote literacy and tolerance— two causes not only reflected in his work, but forever dear to his heart.

Interview With J.D. Lexx:

  1. Can you tell us a little about your books?
I like to think my books are inherently difficult to define. They’re sensual, yes, and oftentimes erotic, but never grounded in the sex itself. To me, those moments should arise naturally within the construct of living life and adventure. In that sense, I suppose my one guiding principle is that my words spark the imagination and lead my readers to think. To engage and vicariously participate in the scenes as they unfold. I’m proud to hear it every time a new reader comes to me and tells me of the “book hangover” my work has caused them. Not because it strokes my ego but because it validates that work in the most important way—it made them see the allure in something new. It tells me that, at least to those people, the books I’ve written are not simply the next stop in a line of enjoyable reads. They’re ones that will stick in the mind even after they’re finished.
  1. When did you know you wanted to write a book?
That’s a tough question. I’ve always known I was a writer; I think most of us do. But then, my whole life I’ve had others pushing me to write as well. Maybe that’s why I’ve never considered it a skill or god forbid a talent. I see it as a gift I was fortunate enough to be given, and I want to put it to the best use possible.
As for when I knew I wanted to write a book, I wrote my first in college, over the course of a summer full of sleepless nights. Since then, the only real question is which I wanted to write next. That’s the part that took a few years but as I’ve traveled between the liberation of both coasts to the more conservative pocket in between, I’ve seen a lot of discrepancy between the comfort people have when it comes to sexuality. Somehow I just knew that I wanted to turn my writing to the notion of embracing that side of ourselves and not being ashamed. That’s why I try to compel a story through its humanity first and foremost.
  1. Do you work with an outline, or just write?
I’m definitely a pantser. I find that outlines just don’t work for me. They constrict the flow of the story. I’ve never written one yet that ended where I expected it to. That one of the things I love about writing. It takes me along on the journey as well.
  1. Do you aim for a set amount of words/pages per day?
Honestly, and I may be old-fashioned about this, but I aim for quality and only quality. When I see other writers boasting that they have met their 17,000 word quota for the day, it makes me cringe. The easier it is to write, the more painful it will be to read. And with the unchecked freedom of a self-publishing market, I think a few authors out there have forgotten the value of crisply crafted text in their mad dash to crank out as many books as possible. Personally, for the sake of our readers, I would love to see the industry as a whole take a step back, breathe, and resume writing good books in place of abundant ones.
  1. Which book has been your favorite to write?
I’d have to say Malediction, hands down. While I love all the books I’ve written, Malediction has allowed me to dig deeper than ever before and really tap into emotion and suspense in ways my novellas have not. But then, each of those carry the seed of a bigger story so they were each quite a challenge in their own rights.
  1. Do you have a favorite spot to write?
I have an office closed off from the world where I can best concentrate but honestly, I’d rather be outside in the garden on a nice day. I’ve always felt that the fresh air and world buzzing around me frees up the mind to wander.
  1. Do you listen to music while you write?
No, I find most music too distracting. Though I will use different sound generators to help set the tone and the mood I’m aiming for.
  1. For someone who hasn't read any of you books yet, which one would you suggest they read first?
When asked, my team and fans typically recommend Food Lust since it’s a playful, breezy read. Or sometimes Two-Way Glass for its darker and most suspenseful elements. But now that Malediction is on the market, I like to think it will be the book that introduces me to new readers.
  1. What do you do when you are not writing?
I’m usually planning what to write next. But given the opportunity, I love to get away from my world and into some new element. Travel and new experiences are big with me. I could sit on Google and research all day but I find the most intriguing ideas come to me when I’m away from the keyboard.
  1. What are writing projects are you currently working on?
I currently have my first stand-alone (non-Crimson Confession) novel near completion and I am preparing to shop that around. It’s a little bit mystical, a little bit fantastic, and a whole lot of sensual wrapped into a quick-paced adventure-mystery. I can’t wait for the world to read it.
