Interview With Leigh Ellwood

Interview With Leigh Ellwood!!

1) Can you tell us a little about yourself?

Hi there. I write erotica and romance, and have been published for over ten years with various publishers (Phaze Books, Torquere Press, Decadent Publishing, ARe Books, and others). I write a variety of genres and pairings, but more recently I write M/M and F/F in contemporary settings.

2) Can you tell us a little about your books?

I've been busy this year with a group of authors in a box set series called Sexy To Go. Each month we've published sets of short sensual stories. Our sixth bundle comes out soon.

This year, too, I wrote the first F/F novella to be published by ARe Books. The Sweetest Dare is part of a longer contemporary series I've written (Dareville) set in Virginia. More recently, I've contributed M/M stories to anthologies for Coming Together and Torquere Press. My story "Lyon's Den" is about an all-male brothel and appears in Coming Together: Outside the Box. "Styx & Stone" is a fantasy set in the underworld, written for Torquere's Mythologically Torqued collection.

In July, I'll publish the first M/M romance novella in a trilogy called The Men of Sylvester Street. All the stories are set in an Eastern Shore beach town.

3) Which book has your favorite to write?

Oh, that's a challenge to answer. :) I tend to favor the story I'm currently writing. Right now I'm really getting into my new Sylvester Street series. The first title, Sly Foxes, is coming out and I'm working on another story called On the Sly.

4) How do you decided whether the story is going to be just one book or more than one book?

I have set a goal of three novellas, which I will then collect for a print volume. I'd like to sign up for some conferences next year and want to have the book available to readers.

5) When did you know you wanted to write a book?

Early on. I've written shorts and goofy little plays since elementary school. In college, though, I wanted to go into journalism but I found the pull of fiction too strong to resist.

6)  For a reader new to your books, which book would you suggest they read first?

If you like M/F pairings, I would suggest Truth or Dare - my first novel and the first Dareville book. If you like M/M I have a collection of shorts called Men & Mayhem which is all paranormal and speculative fiction.

7)  How do you come up with your characters names?

I have to be very careful, because I find myself repeating names at times. These days I check baby name generators and research surnames from different regions to find the right match.

8) Do you have a favorite spot to write?

I have a recliner where I do the bulk of my writing. I tend to write at night when everybody in the house is sacked out. :)

9) Do you work with an outline, or just write?

It depends on the work. For a standalone story or first in the series I tend to write freely. Once I get deeper into a series I have to outline various things to keep the stories and characters consistent.

10) What are writing projects are you currently working on?
I just finished a novella for an upcoming box set of F/F romance. The story, Daring Destiny, will appear in First Lady Love. Also, I'm working on more Sylvester Street stories: On the Sly and Sly Vs. Sly.

Freedom to be herself.
Freedom to let go of her pain.

About Brie Paisley:
Brie Paisley is a small town gal from Mississippi. She always wanted to write at a young age and was always filling journals with her thoughts and short stories. Brie started with the idea of Worshipped a year ago and with the encouragement of her husband and sister in law, she was able to write her first book. When she is not writing, you can find her reading a good book, painting, scrapbooking, or watching a good movie with her husband and her boxer.

Interview with Brie Paisley:
  1. 1. Can you tell us a little about your book?
My debut novel Worshipped back in March. When I started actually writing it, I had no idea it would end up being the way it became. It took me a little over a year to write it, and how I got the idea was kind of crazy. There is always that one book, or one TV show that you love and while I was watching a favorite TV show of mine, the idea literally came out of nowhere. The idea of a love triangle always seems more taboo and full of angst. I wanted to write something different and I feel I accomplished that with Worshipped. With the second book, the story sort of took a different turn than I thought. I felt a certain character needed her story told, as well as another. This second book of the series is all about them. It’s a little darker than the first, but we all love a bad boy right?

    2.  What inspires you to write?
A lot of things actually. I have always wanted to write. I have a very active imagination, and since I was child I would always come up with these crazy ideas. Then I read a great book, or see a great movie, and it clicks something in my brain. I think, oh well that would be a great idea. Then I take that small idea no matter how small it may be, and before I know it, a storyline is born. No matter what I am doing or if I am actually out doing something, I always feel inspired to write something new.

    3.  How was it to press publish on your first book?
It was very surreal! I still can’t believe I am here, doing what I love. I remember being so nervous that day. I had my husband and sister-in-law telling me how proud they were, and now that it’s about to happen again, I am feeling like I am on cloud nine.

    4. Do you have a favorite spot to write?
I do. I really like to take my laptop outside if it’s sunny. I like to sit in the recliner in my living room. It’s nice to change it up and not to stay confined into one area.

    5. Do you have any “odd” writing habits?
Sort of. I don’t think anything of it, but when I am really into the character’s and writing something great about them, I have been told I make these weird facial expressions. My husband asked me once if I wrote something bad, and when I asked how did you know, he replied, “The look on your face gave it away”. I also like to look at pictures before I even start to write. Having a visual of what the characters look like or the time the story takes place really helps me. They also are a good way for me to make teasers. I see a picture and I come up with something that would fit it best. And then I go back into the book and write it in there.

    6.  Do you listen to music while you write?
Yes I do. I love music. I feel all sorts of emotions from music. I mainly listen to rock, as it is my favorite and my books have a darker feel to it and listening to country or pop just didn’t fit the mood I was going for.

    7. What do you do when you are not writing?
Normally if I’m not writing, I catch up on reading. If I don’t read I will watch movies, get caught up on my favorite TV shows. I like to paint, scrap book, go for hikes with my sweet boxer, or most of the time, I just sit outside and soak up some sun.

8.What's one random fact about yourself that you can share?
One random fact….well I am from the south and I hate sweet tea and country music. Strange I know…LOL

    9. What are writing projects are you currently working on?
I am currently writing a totally new book. It will be a standalone, and can be read before/after Worshipped. This book has nothing to do with the series. I was working on book 3 of the series, but I decided to take a break and write this new one. Be on the lookout, I am half way done and will be announcing it soon!

Black Hills Forever excerpt:
Maybe it was over before it really had a chance to begin. She hoped that her parents would understand why they were separating in less than a year of marriage. This certainly wasn’t what she had in mind at all. The gold and brown flowered recliner was a welcome respite. She sat down gingerly and adjusted the little pillow for her lower back. Closing her eyes as she sat back and rested her head on the padding, Lacey tried to calm her pounding heart. Her stomach was tight and her lower back was aching profoundly.
She heard the floor creak before she heard his voice.
“I’m sorry, Lace. I can’t leave.”
She didn’t open her eyes. She didn’t want to see what a mess he was and hope that she could somehow clean him up. It wasn’t her job. Besides that, Travis had always been the level-headed one and she the emotional one. The tables had somehow been turned and she could say definitely that she disliked it vehemently.
“I am sure I can go stay with my parents or Janell.” Lacey didn’t want to get out of the chair.
“No.”
“Well I admit it isn’t ideal, but that way I won’t be alone.” Lacey continued, ignoring the rise in his voice.
“You’re not alone.”
“I am, but this little one will make its debut soon. I’ll be sure to send you pictures.”
She was baiting him. Still she kept her head leaning against the chair and her eyes firmly closed.
“Like hell you will!” Travis was all attention now and she could hear his steps as he moved across the floor. “That child is mine.”
The thickness of the energy in the room could be cut with a knife. She could hear him panting and wondered how his head was feeling this morning.
“It is mine too. I’ve been too sick to move. I’ve been so dizzy that I faint. I’ve been on an emotional roller coaster and I’ve spent the last five days feeling like I’m doing this alone. I can’t go on this way. If you aren’t in this with me, I’m out.” Her voice rose in octaves that had to have his head splitting. When she opened her eyes to the silence, she found him only a couple feet away looking at her seriously.
“You can’t leave me.” The command she knew was coming, but hoping he could back it up. Alone the words sounded weak and pleading.
“I can.” Lacey shifted in the chair, feeling peculiar to say the least. “I know what Rip meant to you and I’m sorry for what happened. The drinking and anger has to stop or you’ll lose me too.” She stared into his blue eyes and saw the fear clouded by the hangover.
“I know. It will. Please don’t leave me.” He went to his knees in front of the chair. His hands clasped together and his face contorted in contrition.
