Interview With S. Valentine:
1. What
inspires you to write?
My passion of reading. Also the voices in my
head that never shut up lol!
2. When
did you know you wanted to write a book? I've
been writing for as long as I can remember. I started writing in
primary school. I used to write short stories set in the Elizabethan
era. I then completed several manuscripts in my late teens, mainly
horror and contemporary, of which I still have to this day. Having
studied law, and working as a trainee legal executive for years,
writing then took a backseat. I returned to it a few years ago.
3. Do
you work with an outline, or just write?
I usually write a rough book
blurb first. I have the plot and ending in mind, however I am not one
of those organised people that plan chapter by chapter. I like my
characters to surprise me, and usually the end I sometimes had in
mind takes a different turn by the time I come to it.
4. What
do you do when you are not writing?
I can’t remember a day in the
past years where I haven’t be writing or doing something not
related to writing, whether it’s writing for a weekly newspaper,
managing other authors, blogging or more. BUT, when I do pull myself
away from the computer, I like to sunbathe in the summer, shop, or
explore the beautiful island I live on. I also like a cocktail or two
5. Do
you ever experience writer’s block?
Sometimes, yes! I hate it. I
have to step away for a day or two from writing.
6. Do
you have a favorite spot to write?
At the beach! I like to take my
notepads there. Another spot is my apartment when I have the place to
myself, music on low, no distractions.
7. Do
you listen to music while you write?
I do. I have a playlist for each
of my novels.
8. If you
could spend 24 hours as a fictional character, who would you chose?
This is such a tough one! I’m going to say Serena Van Der Wooden
from Cecily Von Ziegesar Gossip Girl books, purely because she had
the glamorous rich lifestyle, the gorgeous wardrobe, hot male
friends, boyfriends, and the chance to party it up in not only the
best bars in town, but the Hamptons!
