When Fall Breaks (Seasons of Jefferson #1)

by

Kaitlyn Woodley is a beautiful, determined, high school senior, who embraces her small-town roots and country life. She’s studious, musically gifted, and headed for a successful career in swimming. Aside from a catty group of jealous girls, who taunt her mercilessly, Kaitlyn’s dreams are well within her reach. That is, until she becomes tangled up with the handsome Pistol Black, a rodeo cowboy, who not only turns every girl’s head in the county, but also turns her perfect world upside down.

Kaitlyn’s overprotective twin brother and best friends, begin to see signs that make them question Pistol’s subtle control over her. As secrets are unveiled, they intervene to save her from a possible path of destruction. To their surprise, when best friend Brody steps in to protect her, newly discovered feelings complicate an already volatile situation. Soon, everything begins to change. Old feelings die, new feelings emerge, and the once beautiful path they had traveled over summer, begins to alter with the season.

Will Kaitlyn’s closest friends be able to pull her from the destructive path she’s been led to follow? As the winds of time blast through their lives, the loyalty toward their best friend will remain stronger than ever. They are determined to protect her, even if one of them ends up getting hurt in the hunt for safety. One thing is for certain, none of this close group of friends will be left untouched when fall breaks.

THE DEAD OF WINTER by Julie Solano & Tracy Justice
(Seasons Of Jefferson Book 2)

About JT Authors:

Julie and Tracy, aka JT Authors, are a writing team out of Northern California. We are full time teachers, wives, and mothers. We both attended the same high school and later graduated from CSU, Chico where Tracy majored in Liberal Arts and Julie majored in Psychology. We also obtained multiple subject teaching credentials and have a combined 37 years of teaching experience. Both love working with middle school children and have a passion for helping their students with real world problems. We write our books as gifts to our children, but also have a vested interest in bringing teenage issues to light. We hope you enjoy reading our books as much as we enjoy writing them.  It is our hope to spread positive messages to teens, while encouraging reluctant readers to find a love for literature.

When Fall Breaks is the first book in the Seasons of Jefferson Series. This book is intended to give readers an awareness of the warning signs and dangers of unhealthy relationships and substance abuse. We are currently writing book two in the series: The Dead of Winter.

Interview With Julie Solano and Tracy Justice (JT Authors)

  1. Can you tell us a little about your book?

Our book is a Young Adult Romance novel infused with country humor and suspense. It follows the journey of a small, tight knit group of high school friends and how they come together to help their best friend who is experiencing difficulties in an unhealthy relationship. It ends in a suspenseful cliffhanger.

  1. Do you have a favorite character to write about?

Yes, we do have favorite characters to write about. The four main characters in our series are based on the personalities of our children, so it’s really fun to write them. Of course it’s fiction so we get to fantasize about how they’d react in different scenarios, but it’s very entertaining for us.

  1. How is it to co-author a book?

It’s a great experience to co-author because we don’t face writing challenges alone; we face them together. If writer’s block kicks in, the other one will usually have a spark and we’re able to overcome those obstacles. We are also able to bounce ideas off of each other and discuss scenarios to see if they’re logical or fit into the plot. It’s nice to have the input of another person while writing. Another perk is all the discussion, laughter, and memories made during the writing sessions. It makes it a lot more fun than writing alone. Team writing also makes it easier to cushion the blow of negative feedback, which all writers experience at some point. Writing a book is so much more than just writing; it’s the experience of publishing, marketing, networking, and meeting new people from all over the world. It has been more fun than we ever imagined to be able to share this experience with our best friend. We’d never want to do this alone.

4. Has either of you published a book without the other one?

No, this is our first book writing venture.

5.  Do you have a favorite spot to write?

That’s an interesting question. It depends on what scene we’re writing on that given day. We like to write out at Tracy’s ranch in Scott Valley most of the time. Sometimes we’ll drive down to our favorite bridge, or go visit a local river. The setting of When Fall Breaks was inspired by two of our favorite places in the world. We combined the beauty of the valley with the small rural town we grew up in for our country themed story.

6. Do you listen to music while you write?

We enjoy listening to music before we meet, especially country music which helps inspire our country theme. However, you’ll never catch either one of us with music on, let alone a TV, when we are writing. The first thing we do is turn off all electronics, besides our computers, to focus on the task for the day. Background noise drives us crazy and we don’t need anymore crazy in our life. :)

7.  What's one random fact about yourself that you can share?

We both teach at the same middle school we attended (right next door to each other).

8. When did you know you wanted to write a book?

Together, we’ve been writing project based lesson plans for years, and have always had fun creating little projects that turn into something magical for kids. However, we never considered writing a book together until we started taking some graduate classes where we had to write group papers. We enjoyed brainstorming ideas together, and contributing different scenarios that enhanced the topic. We also found it eerie how many times we’d share the same idea using nearly identical sentences when writing a research paper. It was hilarious how much our writing style and word choice matched. We somehow made boring papers enjoyable to write. Not to mention, they got a lot of positive feedback from the professors. We thought we’d try our hand at writing a book as a gift to our own children, as well as one that would entice and excite reluctant readers in our middle school. We’ve accomplished that task at our school, and here we are sharing it with you.

9.  Are you attending a book signing events this year?

We don’t have any plans right now. We both work full time and have kids. If a book signing came up that fit into our schedule, we’d definitely consider it.

10. What writing projects are you currently working on?

We are currently writing book two of our Seasons of Jefferson Series. It has been fun to take our readers off the cliff we left them dangling from. We will be answering their questions soon. We feel bad how we left people at the end of When Fall Breaks, even though we’ve been known to laugh when people share their reactions.
