Burning Barriers, a Novella
Coming Dec 29!!

Burning Barriers, a Novella

by
Lucy
We were high school prom king and queen.
He moved on. I moved East.
Seven years ago, I left Breckenridge, Colorado, hoping to never return.
All it took was one horrific night not too long ago to change all that.
Now, I’m back, and there is one person I hope I don’t run into.
His name is Jake Galloway.
My prom date. My old boyfriend. My first true love.
Now, I’m back home to recover from a recent attack that nearly took my life as well as my best friend’s.
I’m more afraid of what will happen to me should my path cross with Jake’s again.
I know that will hurt me more than anything I’ve recently gone through.
He’ll own my heart and my body all over again.

Will Lucy be able to choose where her heart truly belongs after coming back to the town she grew up in?

Jake
She took off running when I confessed I love her, but couldn’t give her the committed relationship she wanted.
I needed to live my college years and party it up with lots of girls and booze.
Sex with Lucy Wyatt was an experience in of itself.
I thought I was doing right by moving on from her.
I thought there was more out there than just Lucy.
Even if we burned for each other like a raging wildfire.
Now, Lucy’s back, and I want her more than ever.
The minute my eyes trailed on her walking down the street my desire for her burned more than ever. It’s as though seven years apart never happened. It’s just this time I’m not sure I can have her anymore.

Can flames from years past be rekindled, or have they been extinguished for good?

This is a short story and is included in the Barrier Series. However, it can be read as a standalone.

For Mature audiences only for strong language and sexual situations

Interview with Sara Shirley:
1. Can you tell us a little about your books?
Well, I started The Barrier Series on Jan. 1, 2014 and I can tell you three book later it's all become a whirlwind of a year. Frozen Barriers all came about because it was a simple subject for me. The story was in my head and after meeting a phenomenal friend at the New York Author Event in 2013 it was finally rolling. I

Frozen Barriers is a simple story about a guy and a girl who meet as kids. He's a hockey player from a blue collar family and she's a figure skater destined for the Olympics. The only problem for Emily is that her parents are all about image and Emily is their "golden ticket". Jeremy plays minor league hockey and through old acquaintances reunites with Emily well after college.

Jeremy and Emily realize they have the ability to help fight for what the other wants but they hit a few speed bumps along the way.

In Hidden Barriers you are introduced to Josh and Sam. You briefly meet Josh in Frozen Barriers since he's Jeremy's older brother. A Massachusetts State Police Officer who through events that occur at the end of Frozen Barriers ends up meeting Samantha (Sam) a wine bar owner and roller derby girl.

Sam knows her feelings are there for Josh, however something very tragic happened in her past that holds her back from finally seeing what's right in front of her. When tragedy strikes again it's Josh who has to find the strength within him to fight for the one he truly loves.

And now, in Burning Barriers, which is due out in late Dec. 2014 you will hear Lucy and Jake's story. Lucy has a role in Hidden Barriers as Sam's roommate and roller derby teammate. After tragedy strikes she's forced to return to the place she grew up in. She has not been back to Breckenridge, Co since the day her high school sweetheart broke up with her. Unfortunately she's still in love with him and the minute she gets back to town Jake is the first one she runs into.

Who knows? Perhaps love is frozen in time. Love could be hidden from us. But, can it burn forever?
2. Do you prefer ice skating or playing hockey?
I have to say ice skating. I figure skated for nearly 12 years of my life. The knees aren't what they used to be but it's just like riding a bike. The minute I break out the old figure skates on a clean surface of ice I'm in heaven. Shhh. don't tell my mom. She'll have me competing and training all over again. =)
3. Who's story was your favorite to write, Josh & Sam's or Jeremy and Emily's?
Oh boy...tough one. Jeremy and Emily will always be my first born babies since it's my first book. However, I wrote Josh and Sam in five weeks time. Their story just spoke to me. I hadn't even published Frozen when people were saying they needed Josh's story and I just wrote it. It was darker and stirred the waters a little more than I expected. As a fan of the dark and suspenseful romances I have to say Josh and Sam were my favorite at the time.
4.  What do you do when you are not writing?

LOL. This SHOCKS everyone. I work a full time job as an accountant. You expected something exciting didn't you? When I'm not doing that I'll be hanging out with friends doing normal everyday stuff. I travel a lot and most times it's to go see friends I've met through the book world. I ski, go to wine tastings and hang out at the beach as well.
5. Do you listen to music while you write?
Absolutely. Music is my sanctuary. It allows me to go off into my own world and just feel what I need to write. I start a playlist and just keep adding as my mood changes. I set songs to specific scenes and at the end of my books you'll see portions of my playlists that inspired me. Some of my favorite artists that are always listened to are The Civil Wars, Brandi Carlile, Delta Rae, and anything acoustic.
6. When did you know you wanted to write a book?
I had been a reader for a number of years. I would literally read four books a week. By sheer chance I ran into a woman in NYC at an author event who would forever change my life. Kiki is a staple to the book world and she told me to write one afternoon in NYC over drinks when we didn't even know each other and just happened to run into each other in the lobby bar. I owe every page of every book I have written or will ever write to her. I may have muses for my characters when I write, but Kiki is heart and soul behind my books.
7. What's one random fact about yourself that you can share?
Awww...just one. lol. Alright. You can read any of my books and find out a lot about me in my characters. There is some truth in some of them.  But a little known fact is that I hate the smell of bacon. Hate it! Some have heard this already but I make my husband take it outside to cook on the grill because I start gagging if I'm anywhere near it.
8. What's your favorite holiday?
Halloween. No question about it....It's Halloween! Costumes, cider, candy and festivals....and costumes! LOVE IT!
9. Are you attending any author signing event in 2015?
Right now I'm scheduled to sign in April at the North Shore Author Signing in Peabody, MA and will be attending the Toronto event June 13, 2015 but am on the waitlist to sign. But, either way I'll be at these events for sure. There is a possibility I'll be present at the Rebels and Readers event next November as well. I just need to inform my husband about that one ;)
10.What are writing projects are you currently working on? Well, Burning Barriers (Barriers 2.5) is scheduled for release before Jan. 1, 2015. Totally excited for that one since I am proud to say a very talented individual helped create a piece that is so phenomenal it's hard to believe he wrote it just for my readers! I've also started working on Broken Barriers which will close out the series and then I can relax for a while and just read and help the Street Teams I'm on promote the other authors I passionately support everyday.
