Travels With Penny, or, True Travel Tales of a Gay Guy and His Mom

I opened the door to the sex shop and found my mother standing in front of the display case talking to a tall salesman wearing a leather harness, jock strap and a dog collar. The first thought was, “Oh, crap!” The second was, “I hate it when Dad’s right.”
Watching my mother investigate the testicle torture devices, cock rings and nipple clamps was not even close to being on the weekend’s itinerary. It was so far removed from my itinerary, it was in a separate zip code. This New York trip was supposed to be a celebration of my thirty-fifth birthday, it was supposed to be an opportunity for me to have one last grand hurrah before the fall semester kicked in and buried me under the pressure of literature reviews, critical analysis papers and thesis research. I envisioned this weekend to be a fun filled romp around the Big Apple, not a safari through Leather Wonderland with my mother.

Thus begins David Alan Morrison’s hilarious memoir about the evolution of family dynamics. Following the sudden death of his father, a single, middle-aged gay guy struggles with his own mortality by reminiscing about the travels with his gregarious mother and, in doing so, discovers a new dimension to his relationship with himself, his parents and his regrets. Travels With Penny is an honest look at the transformation of the baffling, complex relationship between children and their parents.

Rescuing Awen

Awen is dying.
As the hub planet sitting in the center of a network of wormholes which connect countless solar systems, she has enjoyed a peaceful existence for eons. Until the shape shifters arrived. Seeing her as an easy way to get rich, they have striped her of her natural resources and left her in pain.
Then Dell slips through a time stream on lands in her North gate. Dell, who was never told of his family's heritage of Keepers of Awen's Portals doesn't understand his role in saving the planet and only wants to go home.
Until Awen establishes a telepathic link with him and bestows upon him the power to control Awen's Soil, Air, Fire and Water.
Working together, the sentient planet and the lost boy set out to destroy the shape shifters and reestablish Awen's balance in the system before she is killed and the portals shut down forever.

Angakok

WINNER: 2nd place - Bridgid’s Fire Books "Debut Novel"

San Francisco, 2005: A drunk driver takes the lives of two strangers: Dane and Victoria. They don't stay dead.

San Francisco, 2006: Dane suffers from chronic insomnia, relieved by short bursts of fitful sleep, filled with bloody dreams of a red headed woman who he has never met. He barely remembers the night he died, much less any specific detail of the accident.

Victoria suffers no such ailment. She, unlike Dane, remembers quite clearly what happened to them after they died that fateful night. She remembers what happened to them long before that night; spanning back through the years to the past lives they have shared. She remembers everything.

Their destinies collide when mystic and friend Mrs. Jeremy leads Dane on a quest to discover what happened to him and Victoria after they died one year ago. Now Dane must race against time to prevent the mysterious Victoria from killing his life partner, Jake, whose actions in his past lives come back to haunt him. This metaphysical suspense targets the GLBT audience primarily, as well as any reader who enjoys a plot centered around the pros and cons of karma.

1. How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
I have written 4 books: ANGAKOK ( LGBT suspense thriller), GUILD OF IMMORTAL WOMEN (magical realism with female central characters), RESCUING AWEN (middle grade adventure fantasy) and TRAVELS WITH PENNY; OR, TRUE TRAVEL TALES OF A GAY GUY AND HIS MOM (a humorous memoir)I have written 4 books: ANGAKOK ( LGBT suspense thriller), GUILD OF IMMORTAL WOMEN (magical realism with female central characters), RESCUING AWEN (middle grade adventure fantasy) and TRAVELS WITH PENNY; OR, TRUE TRAVEL TALES OF A GAY GUY AND HIS MOM (a humorous memoir) My favorite has to be PENNY.  Not only because it's my mom (!) but also because I wanted the book to be fun - interesting, yet meaningful.  I'm glad of the result.

2. Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?
I write when I feel the overwhelming urge to do so...I don't have a set time, nor do I force the writing when it's not coming naturally.

3.  Do you have a favorite food or drink you must have nearby when writing?
No - I don't keep food / drink around when I'm writing.  I usually think/talk to myself and the walk to and from the kitchen gives me time to mull over the writing obstacle.

4. Do you have a release day tradition?
Release day tradition? MOVIES! I love the movies.  When a book comes out, I take the day off and head to a giant bowl of popcorn at the local discount movie place.

5. Do you listen to music while you write?
Never listen to music while writing.  I like it totally quiet.  I don't even let people talk to me.

6. If you had a superpower, what would it be?
My superpower - to change my physical body.  MYSTIQUE is my role model.

7. What  writing projects are you currently working on?
I'm wrestling with my writing demons about the vampire/human gay romance.  I don't want it to be "another damn romance"...I think it can be funny and adventurous.
